Title: Cleaning inside of tank

Hi all,

Thanks for the help on the tank lacquer, got some 2K aerosol cans on their way.

Before I spray it I've got to clean the inside. Ive done inside of tanks before with the Kreems solutions when there was rust to success, but this tank is clean inside except for lots of fillings and drilling debris. The lock had to be drilled out because the key was lost and left the inside with lots of metal bits.

Whats the best way to get them out without the Kreem solutions? Would an air line push them all out?

Tanks can be a pain to fully flush sometimes. If there are steel filings in there I wonder if a magnet on a telescoping rod would get the bulk of them out? A little led torch and a mirror on a telescopic rod would help to check. Could try and shake em all into the same corner? I have a few "screwdrivers" with magnetic hex inserts to use on Allen screws. They are forever picking up ferrous debris. Can't stop the blighters! Maybe one of them would help to get into tight corners?

Just thinking out loud really.

Surely if you keep swilling it out with petrol, it will wash out any debris  :)

I've shaken as much of it as I can out, used a magnet but a lot of it is alli

Yeah ill try swishing petrol in it, see how that goes

Try a vacuum cleaner , with say, a fuel pipe sealed on the end of main hose, then you can get into those fiddly areas

I got it all clear finally, took about 45 mins till I was happy and sure.

First is just shook it dry till my arms hurt.

Then I dropped magnets down the cap attached to string so (so I could pull them out again), they just stuck the the inside of the tunnel, poured petrol in and shook it loads. Did this about 3 times, each time pouring the petrol out (loads of alli and plastic fillings came out), the pulled the magnets up and cleaned off the steel bits.

Came out all well and today I'm spraying it.

Good doo,s, I,ve just been doing a similar thing with my suzuki gs500 project bike. Good luck with the re spray
