As i posted in the for sale section i was taking my XBR for its MOT on Friday and it passed easily enough fortunately. But on the way to and from the MOT centre the engine kept cutting out at tickover speed until it was very warm.It used to do this last year but is now much worse.I am not taxing it until the start of May and it might improve as i use it more i suppose but i'm guessing the cold start / choke/ tickover jets are blocked with some residue or stale fuel.I don't particularly want to strip the carb but will if i must and have just sold my spare carb on Evilbay.I was wondering whether the old dodge of running through some Redex or other fuel system cleaner might be worth a try?

XBR's have a habit of cutting out on tickover especially at traffic lights. Honda issued some revised valve clearences that are supposed to help. Couls be duff fuel or dodgy plug possibly.

Thanks Steve - yes i remember when they were current there were tick over problems which all 3 of the ones i have had have shared.I guess i'll just have to work my way through :plug, valve clearances, carb etc.

Adjusting the idle mixture screw, beneath the carb, will solve the problem. If memory serves, ΒΌ turn further out is usually enough. You can adjust it with a small screwdriver bit held in pliers; there isn't enough room for a proper screwdriver.

Cheers GB i'll give that a try.Should be back on the road by Friday.

I've finally managed to get a small screwdriver bit in the gap under the carb and turned out the screw by a small amount and this seems to have done the trick .Didn't cut out once on the 10 mile ride in to work this morning. Thanks for all help...
