Thanks for that, i will not be paying mega bucks for them. I will either convert the comstars with stainless rings and drill the original rims or go the CB250 RS route.
If i can get a CB250 front to try at a cheap price i will try that first. I can re-spoke a wheel ok, done a few before.
Your bike looks good.
How do the rim widths compare? The rs has fairly narrow rims.
Cheers

XBR front is 2.15, CB250RS is 1.85. I would have to try the tyre first and decide wether to get a new rim.

If you are going to rebuild the XBR to GB spec then the Japanese model GB had a 1.85 rim with a 90/90 x18 tyre.

I have an XBR fitted with RS250 spoked wheels. They were on the bike when I got it - newly laced with stailess steel spokes. I needed to adjust some of the shims to perfect the line up but the XBR caliper works with the RS front disc.
The only problem the previous owner had was getting a wheel sprocket - he had to have one specially made.
The front tyre is the RS 90/90/18 but the rear is the bigger section XBR tyre mounted on the RS rim.
It looks a bit odd but seams to work OK - the handling is just as good as my standard XBR - maybe slightly better as a lot of weight has been stripped off when I converted it to a cafe racer.
Good luck with your new project Silver - if the bike is as good as it looks you got a real bargain.

howdy chris 22 your xbr looks brilliant ..have you any more photos
is that a gb seat and mudguard on it thanks tommy
-
Thats good news chris. RS250 seems to be the way to go. I like the look of your bike. Where did the seat come from?.
Dave

Hi Tommy, Dave,
the seat is a chopped down original Honda part - not sure which model it is off.
The rear mudguard is half original plastic (to keep road dirt off the free-flow air filter) mated to a generic stainless steel guard cut to fit.

Hi again Dave,
I just Googled Honda CB750 seat and a picture of my seat came up (amongst others)
It would appear to be off a Honda CB750 K6 Racer
-
That seat does look good
-
Thank you Joolz - sorry about hi-jacking your project posts - no offence meant.
Dave if you need any dimensions for spacers etc give me a call.
Cheers

My marbles are well and truly lost.
I've taken to starting threads which I have no recollection of doing!
Wtf! ???
Hi Propellor, yours was just the first posting on the split point to keep JOOLZ rebuild postings separate, sorry to upset your marbles!!

cheers chris that seat has given me some ideas for a xbr project I have on
thanks tommy
-
Er, ok. I don't know what happened but, hey, I've been slapped with stiffer fish.

Hey Propellor, I have been following this thread and they are on another planet of their own................................ but then think Irish! :o

Chris 22, could you have a look at the disc on the CB250 RS front wheel you have fitted and measure the diameter. I now have an RS front wheel but the disc is much smaller diameter than the XBR.
Thanks,
Dave
-
Hi silver, I think you,ll find the disc from the Honda cb750 (80,s model) bolts straight on to the rs hub and needs only a bit of work to space out the xbr caliper for it all to line up correctly . Regards Michael

Hi Dave,
the diameter of the disc fitted to the RS wheel is 280 mm but I did not source this so I have no idea what is standard size. The disc on the XBR front wheel is also 280 mm.
Chris
-
Chris you must have the CB750 disc. The CB250 is only about 240mm.
I'll get a CB750 disc.
Thanks.

So I had a look at the spoked wheels on Alison's XBR.
I was told that both front and rear are 250RS hubs.
Both wheels are 36 spoke, in groups of four,
Front rim is marked:
J 18 x 1.85 4 80 DOT, also DID JAPAN 1.85 x 18 96 --14 07 --
Tyre: 100/90-18 Avon Roadrider
Rear rim is marked:
MORAD SPAIN 2.50 x 18 36TC 23/5/08 E DOT
Tyre: 120/90-18 Avon Road rider
Hope this is of some help :)
