So, as I said on the chatter forum, I've just bought one of these for not much money. Its come with a pile of spares, but isn't complete either. I appear to have a mixture of GB250 Clubman series 1 and series 2, also CBX, CB250RS, and some bits I can't identify yet :P
Also the only paperwork I got was an old tax disc with an English reg from east sussex, and some southern irish paperwork with a County Meath reg, so now the fun starts!

hi timbo I think it only cost a few quid to change from the irish reg with the dvla
there was a guy breaking a gb 250 near me over a year now its a long shot but I will call in and see if gone
let ya know how I get on

Thanks Tommy. The guy I bought the stuff off had only had it a matter of weeks, but lost interest before he even started. He didn't really know what he had. He had bought the whole lot off a fella in Ashbourne, Co. Meath. The weird thing is, I know of another GB250 locally, with no paperwork, and it is also on a Co. Meath reg. When I looked at the Irish paperwork I have for mine, his Co. Meath reg was written on the back of my paperwork in pencil! The plot thickens :o Maybe they came from the from the same person originally?

a the guy I saying that was breaking a gb apparently had 1 and and half bikes for breaking or sale he lives near me which is about 40 min from ashbourne , wonder if its the same bikes you have I will see what I can find out here what year is your bike

ps if you have a frame with a reg number and no paper here, you can apply for a duplicate reg book the powers that be give you the run around but I did it with a x7
tommy
pps I should never have sold that x7 :'( :'(
-
Thanks again Tommy. It probably is the same bike, but if u could check up and see if he has anything left that would be great. The one piece of paper I have gives it as 1988. But then I also have a second frame and engine as well. I suppose im getting ahead of myself, I need to see if the thing runs yet ;)
-
hi timbo all the parts are gone long ago sorry there was also a project gb on done deal lately but that's gone also
tommy
-
Thanks Tommy. The bike on Donedeal is the one I bought. The seller had it on there and Gumtree. Thanks again for your help, and hopefully see you sometime. I'm trying to organise a Thumper gathering in April over the Cookstown 100 wknd in april, so keep an eye on the site for details. Just thinking about your X7, a rare thing now, haven't seen one in years :'(
-
cheers timbo that's sounds good for april if it goes ahead,i wanted to go over to the last tc rally but missed out I was in hospital back probs [again]
I got a dominator a while back so that's a lot kinder on the spine than the xbr ,let me know if you need and gb bits picked up around the Dublin Wicklow kildare area,s tommy
-
So, the only progress on the GB250 front is that I've picked up another two of these wee bikes thanks to a tip off from Tommy in Dublin. One of which is complete. So that's three and a half of the blighters for very little outlay. Though they are all rough and with no paperwork. I'm afraid it'll be a while before I get at them as I've too much xbr stuff to fix up. A really good site to view these bikes and other more obscure Jap stuff is Goobikes. Its a Japanese site with hundreds of bikes for sale :)

Timbo, Would you possibly have a spare rear brake plate assy (GB250). I am doing an XBR conversion and have aquired a rear wheel from GB250 less the brake assy.
I am in UK.
Thanks
Edit, cancel that. Having paid for the wheel i was informed that it had sold earlier and ebay hadn't updated the page.

Sorry to hear you missed out on your purchase Silver. Unfortunately I havent any GB bits for sale as I'm still gathering bits up myself :'(
-
Hi Silver, just in case you still persue a GB250 rear wheel, here's a pic of of a brake plate. As you can see, it has a shaped channel which engages with a raised portion on the GBs swinging arm.

Silver, just found this on Ebay - it's from a CBF250 but looks pretty similar. Ebay 261790948361 £17 buy it now. Obviously you'd need to check first if it was the same - Wemoto may be able to tell you.

Thanks for the help. am currently building up a front wheel based on CB250RS. As my bike is low mileage and the back brake runs true, i think i will make some plates up and get a rim and make it up from the XBR hub, that will save having to change so much. I'll get some stainless plates cut and drill them myself.

That sounds like a plan. Alison has an XBR with RS hubs laced too bought rims, but the bike has been tucked away for the winter, at the back of the house. I will hopefully pull it out tomorrow, and post some info and measurements on here tomorrow if you want :)
-
That would be great. Be nice to see where this is going.

Just picked up a few more GB bits from a guy in Leeds. £30 for the lot. Was well pleased, as it turned out to be more than I expected. As the saying goes, "one persons crap is another persons treasure", or something like that :-\
-
Amongst all the bits and pieces I picked up was a tax disc, with a UK reg, even though the bikes came from southern Ireland. Put the reg into the DVLA enquiry site and it came up as a 1990 GB250. So sent in a V62 app for a replacement log book and cheque for £25. Letter arrived today to say log book on its way, so that's a result! :D. Weird thing is that this is for the pile of bits, rather than the one of the three near complete GBs :-\
-
Have I gone mad? In the past two weeks I have cleared out two breakers of all their GB250 bits. Had been keeping an eye on eBay, and noticed that GB 250 stuff just isn't selling. Probably because so few people are familiar with them, or are renovating them. So I looked at all the bits they had on eBay, and made an offer for the lot, which they accepted. So I'm well impressed. I'll end up with some bits I don't need, but gain by having got some of the real important stuff, well cheap. :)
-
how did u get on getting the paper work sorted ,or is it still on going tommy
-
Ah, yes, interesting topic. To reg in UK you have to first tax, which requires an MOT and insurance. I can't MOT until bikes are roadworthy, so basically they they don't exist. Also you need a dating letter from Honda. Honda UK, who want £30 for this and weren't very helpful. Honda Ireland were awesome, and emailed these to me free of charge. If you ever contact them in Dublin, ask for Leon Bias. Great guy, real helpful. The bike that is a pile of bits now has a UK logbook in my name cause I found an old tax disc with a UK reg, and applied for a new logbook for £25.

Hi Timbo, I have just acquired a CBX250RSE as a Winter project and to use the wheels as an upgrade for my XBR with CB250RS wheels. The rear is fitted OK but the front disc of the CBX is too small a diameter to allow me to use the front wheel on the XBR (and it has a 4 hole fitting).
You seem to have cornered the market in GB250/CBX250 parts - have you got any to spare?
I need:
Carb to head rubber mount (twin carb)
Ignition switch and key
Headlamp assy
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris, unfortunately I don't have any parts going spare. Also be carefu,l as only some parts are interchangeable between the GB and the CBX. You can probably buy a generic ignition switch online that might do. Or try Dave Silvers. He can probably cross reference parts for you with other Honda models. I have a friend in Rugby who built a CBX last winter, so he might have stuff. Ill email him and see. Good luck.
-
Hi Chris, unfortunately the guy in Rugby never got back to me :(
-
Thanks for coming back to me. I have managed to fix the rubber inlet manifold with an alloy brace and copious amounts of araldite - pretty it aint, just as well its mostly hidden. The other bits I got as aftermarket.
Cheers
Chris
