Title: Bearing Specifications
Post by: Steve H on November 16, 2013, 11:41:49 AM
I am looking for a 42mm OD 17mm ID 13mm width wheel bearing. The only one I can find has a C3 clearance, which has greater clearance is meant for high speed high temperature applications.  Has anyone used C3  clearance bearings in wheels ?

Hi.

The c3 clearance is also used where one or both of the races has a heavy interference fit, usually the inner race.

I'm not sure of the implications of using c3 clearance in a wheel. Probably perform reasonably ok, but I'm not sure I'd go for it. You may feel the clearance, as magnified at the wheel rim?

What surprises me though, is that bearings are usually readily available in c normal or c3.

Koyo DG1742-2rs ?

I see what you mean. A special size! Quick trawl on tinternet and they're all coming up c3, as you have said.

You tried ringing a respectable bearing factors?

Which bike is it? What bearing is on the manufacturers micro fische?

Be interested to know how you get on.

Ps: I'm not involved with engineering anymore, but I have a contact in the bearing supply industry. I can make a call if you're really struggling. Can't guarantee any result though, but desperate men etc....
