Today my local Yamaha agent informed me that two of the four headbolts for an SRX are now discontinued. I have considered getting some made using the old ones as patterns. I am a bit concerned about this solution as no doubt the new ones will have a different tensile strengh and therefore, maybe, a different torque setting. Any ideas from the deep font of knowledge which is contained within this forum.? Mart

Hi MArt
I reused mine this time, but I know MArtin Sweet at Slipstream can get em. Give him a try?
IS it the long or short ones? I have 2 surplus to requirement but dunno if its the ones you need...
Sorry, didn't really answer the question, but it may solve the problem! Gimme an email if its easier?
Cheers

Hi Andy, cheers mate, nice quick response. Are your surplus bolts new or old? If used I may as well use the my old ones. If new I will check to see if I need long or short. I would like to use new if possible as I don't want to pull it apart again just yet if I can avoid it. Do you have slipstreams Number. Regards Mart

I would have thought XT600 bolts would be the same, since its a more recent model I would expect them to be still available.

Hi Steve, I would have thought so too but was informed that they were also discontinued and the later XTs had all 4 bolts the same length and with a different part number from the SRX ones. Mart

Ignorance is bliss!
I'd have thought that unless you're bumping up the CR and revving the goolies off the grunt futtock, the head bolts should be OK.
Sally is perambulating around with her old ones in and I've touqued them up twice now. Once after a full rebuild and again after replacing the crap pattern head gasket for the pukka item, plus the 100 mile tweak each time. No mention of new ones in the workshop manual!
I'll ask about up here.
Regards, Bill

Showing ignorance again.
I thought that headbolts were replaced when they were stretched - like on The Boss' old diesel Vauxhall - they did not have a torque setting as I remember. Either way the bolts stretched a certain amount and could not be reused. I was unware that the same was used on bikes - I guess modern jobbies like th R6 maybe. Have always reused the old ones - or used decent spec stainless ones in the past. Maybe that is why the Triton blew its head gasket more often than it leaked oil and maybe 2-strokes are different?
Please enlighten me
How about the Rotax lump - when I eventually get inside it will I need to replace the head bolts?
