Title: Tyres
Post by: Steve H on April 17, 2013, 05:20:24 PM
I am looking at tyre options at the moment. I am looking at either BT45's or Michelin Pilot Activ's in 110/70 - 17 and 140/70 - 17. I am leaning towards the BT45's as I have run them for years on the twinshock SRX, the only issue is they only last 5 minutes. Has any one used the Pilots ?

Hi Steve,
I'd still go for the battleaxes...  always been the best option on my srx's... very predictable performance in dry and wet.
yes, have got pilots on the srx track iron, but if you're not getting a lot of mileage out of battleaxes you'll hardly get to the end of the road with the pilots.... although the payoff is grip far beyond all but the bravest..... last year at snetterton i'd given up all hope of getting round the new hairpin ... and was getting ready to abandon ship... and ...  for some reason it just kept going round, no sensible input from me... apart from bum clenching fear... then I was round... so yes.... performance wise....pilots are exceptional... but then I can frighten myself on battleaxes too.

Cheers, on that basis I'll probably stick with the BT45's

I run Michelin Pilot Road 2 on my CafeRacer in 17" rear and front wheels. 120/70/17 in front and 150/70/17 (too big) in rear.
They are good enough for my piloting skills, very good in all conditions.

I ran BT45 when I still had my 18" wheels. They are (very) good too but "diamonds" on the front tyre had a strange design after some kilometers. It is not dangerous and don't disturb performance, but you can feel very little vibrations. Others users of SRX Teams experienced the same.

Yes, noticed that too.... I'm sure its down to braking into corners that wears the leading edge of the 'diamond'....

Where's the pleasure if you can't brake into corners ? ;D

Exactly!!.... a similar amount of fun can be gained from farting in a sleeping bag you're sharing with your beloved... you even get similar skid marks ;D

Ah, like sex-rodeo : tell your partner you've got HIV (aids) after a few seconds of loving .... and try to stay as long as you can ....

Ok, I go out  :-[ but it won't help about tyres.
