Just prior to my departure for Qatar I'm coming down to South Wales to say farewell to my family and would very much like to do the same with any Thumper Clubbers around Cardiff that are interested. Saturday 23 February is the best day for me but I'm not sure of a venue. I would have thought The Plough in Whitchurch but I've heard it's fallen out of favour due to a make-over; if that is the case where do the Cardiff TCers meet now?
Anyway hopefully see a few of you sometime/somewhere over that weekend for to stock up on beer before I go to a place where it's not so easy so come by and a final bacon sandwich might also be in order!!!!!
Cheers

Im up for this Boyd,
will be great to see my old sausage sharer :o ,ive not ben in the plough since said referb but there are plenty of pubs to choose from, looking forward to it mate.
-
I'll be there, wherever "there" is, for sure matey. Pluff is nice enough, if a bit posh now, but hard to get to for me on buses or trains. That said, wifey can always ferry me about... Point is, it's your Do, you decide. Thought about going for a curry first??
-
Boydyboy,
We will be around Cardiff on your proposed date, as I said with regard to the Dragon, we would like to see you before you depart these shores, I too have not been to the Pluff since "Upgrading" took place, as Jules says there are plenty to choose from but I don't know any quite like the old pluff. There are Cardiff residents with better knowledge of these than me, I expect there will be a GC along soon with a suggestion. See you there wherever "there" turns out to be.

Boyd seeing as Cardiff is on the other side of the world,if you fancy a shandy nearer to home before you leave give me a shout.

And I'll tag along too if I may.

Hello all
I'm overwhelmed by your messages and would like to say "Cheerio!" to as many people as I can so I'm proposing the following:
Matlock Bath*
Sunday 17 February
DK's Cafe (near the red post box) 10:00 for a bacon butty (which although not impossible to get in Qatar will be severely restricted).
Cardiff
Saturday 23 February
The Plough, Whitchurch 20:00 for a few beers (which again although not impossible to get in Qatar will be restricted)
Cheers for now and I'll keep you posted on what's happening in Sandyland.
Boyd
* at short notice I know so I will amuse myself by having a cuppa and looking at bikes for an hour. If anyone can make it that will be good, if not I'll maybe see you when I get back in 2015!
-
The Pluff at 8 it is. ;D

I will drag my sorry carcass along Boyd. The earlier the better Boyd. Aren't Wales at home that day?

My dear dear Boyd,
I am afraid that I will not be able to attend to wish you bon voyage and fare thee well as much as I would like to, as I would have to back in Aberaeron speaking welsh by eight the following morning.
That said, be assured that my best wishes and prayers go with you on this adventure.
Steffan
PS is there a ferry from Iran to Dubai? That would make a great shed meet, ride Europe to Turkey, Iran and then ferry to Boyd's shed meet, mind you the usual fare of sausage and bacon might prove a problem.

The Plough is a bit *******e these days and probably wouldn't be too keen on our company. I know the bar manager there (an old school friend) so I will sound him out.
The nearby British Legion club is better (although the decor is dire), cheaper and very very friendly. I will see the steward (an old work mate of Gareth's) tonight to see if we can snaffle a private corner of the bar and get some scoff too.
Sounds like a good evening ;)

This has got all the makings of a good move GC, reports of the pluff are not encouraging, well done for "grasping the nettle" so to speak. We are both intending to be there.

Hi Steffan
Many thanks for your best wishes and the prayers which, given your insider dealings, should carry more clout.
Best wishes to you and yours.
Boyd
PS I will organise a shed meet asap and wait expectantly for Mark and Ifor to come putt-putting over the sand dunes. And yes pork is available in limited supply so no excuses!

Cheers for that Graham. I am more than willing to be guided by local knowledge. As I don't know the Legion I will initially wait at The Plough from 19:30 onwards for other folks to arrive and then we can drift over.
See you soon

Spoke to the steward of the Legion last night and he's more than happy for us to take up a corner of the bar. I've arranged for us to have sandwiches and chips too. :)
Will sort out all the details in the next day or two.

Excellent idea - the Legion is much better than the (now) snobby Pluff. The new landlord has moved dramatically up market and has broken what used to be a great pub.
I'm sure to make an appearance at some stage during the send-off.
See you all there 8)

Matlock Meet Up....met up with Boyd this morning after a chilly ride over the Cat & Fiddle, still ice and snow up there you know. Boyd bought the bacon butties and coffee...thanks again Boyd..for me, Pat the pillion, Trevor and Dave. we had a good long chat in the cafe until a traffic warden started recording registation numbers of the bikes for the 1hr free parking...on a Sunday morning in February, is there any need....The sun came out so we chatted on the pavement said our goodbyes and went our separate ways....it won't be the same at our annual Rally without Boyd, turning up just as the Curry is ready to put out.
Dave.
ps, see you in 2015, unless you have a shed meet in the desert.

Be careful advertising a party with paste sandwiches and battenburg cake....you'll have the likes of Saville, Glitter and Kevin Webster waiting in the wings.
I'm expecting to call by for an hour(btw nothing to do with the above mentioned), do you have an address for the legion?
Mark

Deuxième fort sur la gauche, juste après les palmiers près du parking de chameau !

If any of you already know the Plough, it's only 100 metres or so away.
Also, I have a small amount of sofa and floor space if anyone needs to bunk down for the night. My house is even more shambolic than usual but we can fit a couple more in. Simon is staying over too. Just let me know well in advance.

A pleasant meet up at the pub, good to see the gang and bid a fond farewell our Elmer Boyd Fudd.
The curry looked good, maybe I should have tried some.

Pleasant indeed, was good to see you Boyd, and sad to see you go at the same time,be well and be happy old friend
Mark,
im guessing the reason you're saying the curry looked good and maybe you should have tried it is because the three plates you had didnt touch the sides as it slid its way into the bottomless pit of your free food stomach ;D,after you'd gone i got blamed for eating all the chips!! :o,good food though it has to be said!
-
Yes....was a good to meet up and say our Fare Wells.
And good food to boot....or in Marks case shovel copious quantities down his neck !
And Jules ate all the chips.
I only managed 2 portions of Curry and chips, with several Sandwiches.
Wonder if Pat managed to bung his own toilet up ?
Boyd.....have a good life, look after yourself and keep in touch.
You will be missed by us all.

What a pleasant evening we had :)
Boyd and SimonM turned up at my house at exactly the same moment and for a minute I wondered if they were a secret couple. This would have had ramifications for later in the evening as they were due to share the same room for sleeping. Happily (or perhaps unhappily?) it was just coincidence.
My brother (Silverfox) turned up and drove us the huge distance of 600 metres to the pub (The Plough). Julian was there waiting for Boyd. After an expensive pint we adjourned to the nearby Earl Haig British Legion club, where we found a fair number of TC reprobates already installed at the bar.
We then had a most enjoyable evening, talking bollocks and quizzing Boyd about his new home. The Club laid on sandwiches and curry and chips for us, so nobody starved ;)
When we got back to my place, Boyd and Simon entertained me with some ukulele tunes (Simon had brought his 'axe' with him).
On Sunday morning we drove down to my dad's cafe to give Boyd his final full English fry up for a while. Later on Sunday I met up with him again, back in the Earl Haig, watching bands at the club's monthly jam session. And then it really was time to say goodbye to a bloke who has been part of the fabric of this club and my biking life for the last ten years.
But it's not really goodbye is it. He'll be as present here as ever, I'm sure, and perhaps at a rally in the future he will saunter in, buy us a beer and eat all our free food as if he'd never been away :)
Enjoy your adventure Boyd, and thanks for all the giggles ;)

No, Graham that was Jesus who is with us always, Boyd will be in the Gulf and we will be here, he will not be with us until he is with us, unless you have stopped taking those nice supplements again.
:P
Steffan
Unless you are saying that he might as well have been in the Gulf for the amount of time he has been around??

A massive "Thanks!" to you all for the excellent times I've had over the last ten years. The send off was more than I could have asked for and no less than I would have expected from a good bunch of friends. Very sorry to going but things move on, and I'm sure we'll meet again at some point. :'(
Best Wishes and Good Luck to You All
-
Blinking heck, are you still here, you're really dragging this goodbye out, just bu66er off for heavens sake. :P
-
See ya Boydyboy. Enjoy the heat and sand and have a good life matey.

He's off tomorrow.
All the best, Boyd. We'll keep checking on the blog to see how you're doing.
Enjoy your new life, you brave man!

Cheerio to Boyd. Best wishes from the crew in Norn Iron. A word of warning! Never approach a camel from the rear. I was witness to a unfortunate incident which left Tony Ross severely traumatised and the camel with exceedingly ugly twins. A lesson to us all.
