I am planning on running my MZ Skorpion this winter in place of the 2T which needs its seals done. So I thought some winter tyres might be in order. The question arises because OE rear is 130/80-17 and the tyre I would like to fit is 130/70-17 can someone enlighten me as to the likely difference and how it might affect the bike please?

130 is the width, 130mm across the tread. If you go bigger you need to measure the swing arm clearance etc. If you go narrower you have a smaller higher loaded contact patch, so less dry grip and maybe more ability to shift snow.
70 is the % of the width they used to set the distance from the rim to the road, the wall depth or profile. 70% of 130mm is 91mm, 80% is 104mm. Going lower profile the gearing will be off by 2pi of the difference, this is naff all. Your pillions bum will be 7mm nearer the road which Rossi might notice but I bet you or I won't.
17 inch is the rim size, but you knew that.
Heidenau do nice winter rubber in 130/80, it's the same size as the Bonneville.

I very much doubt that M&P will be selling Heidenau K66 SiO M&S silca but I will have a look

I buy from Pneu's online and either give the local tyre place a tenner to swap over on loose wheels, or with tube types did it myself. I'd guess the tyre place might be dis-chuffed if I walked in with something they sell but they'd rather let me source Heidenaus etc. if that's what I want.
