I've had my XBR laid up for the best part of a year now - various reasons but mostly crap weather!
I haven't been running it, but it has been kicked over from time to time. I tried to start it the other day but absolutely no go. Fully charged battery, new petrol ( tank & carb drained before lay up) compression ... nothing. Engine is turning, fuel is getting through ( wet plug) but, with the plug resting on the head, no spark. I've tried changing the CDI and the cdi/plug cap and plug, still no spark, tried hotwiring the kill switch, no go....hmmmmm >:(
Last night I noticed on the wiring diagram there is a side stand cut out switch!....could be that but... where does the little bu55er live! Can anyone point me towards it and it's connector or even suggest something I haven't thought of? ???
The only thing I've done to the bike in lay up was to adjust the valve clearences, but I'm pretty sure I got it right.
thanks

Just realised the wiring diagram I found marked up as 'XBR 500' actually says 'GB 500' in the top corner!.....No wonder I couldn't find the little bu66er!.......back to the drawing board. :(

Mine was the exciter coil on the stator. Manual says check for continuity between the single wire from generator (Black/red I think) with earth. If no continuity its nakked. £115 from wemoto!

Check the carb. See if it is clean or gummed up. I know you have petrol getting through but the carb may still be a mess.
Hang just re read the post ???
Change the easy stuff, plug, plug cap, ht lead etc.................
As an alternative, check the kill switch, we have all done it >:( but maybe some corrosion has set in......... :o
