Its that time of year again when we should start thinking about the Dragon Rally.
I will be booking a room at Petes Eats for the Friday night for me and Liz, i believe Steve D wil be there along with GC and probably Simon M, is any one else interested in staying there?

Hi Silverfox
Due to going to the Orkney I'm giving the dragon a miss this year.

As usual I shall be staying at the home of a friend not far from Pete's Eats (GC knows who it is - the mad Welsh woman) if the rally is in that vicinity, but I'll prob. be coming into Llanberis for the usual pre-Dragon imbibing & socialising (again, if the rally site is in that vicinity). One never knows one's luck; it might be far away, like that year when it was near Cerrigydrudion (not really Welsh enough, that place).

Not coming this year guys, have booked two weeks in the Canary Islands. Have a good time.
Crusty ;)

Can we come???????

What, and miss the Dragon? Are you mental?

... Really giving this a lot of thought... Last years rally really p1ssed me off to be frank. Not any of the usual suspects, just picked up on an undercurrent from a new generation of rally goers. Did anyone else pick up on the number of vans and trailers in every layby for 5 miles around??
Hmmmm

Since when is the Dragon supposed to be a ``hardcore`` rally. I take my wife over there. It's just a couple of days riding and a one night event. ::)
Always funny to see people having trouble starting their bikes on summer rallies, though. ;D
(I just put some coles and turf on the fire, it's getting cold in the house) ;)
Personally, I would prefer a `Pre Dragon` camping site somewhere in the North.
-
Didn't wish to imply it was 'hardcore'... It just it used to be honest that's all.
You are right though, should do it cos you want to and bugger to why anyone else is there. Will probably go for the usual reasons...

without a new generation of rally goers the dragon would not exist today.the average age of the origonal attenders would be between 70 and 80, who wants to camp in snowdonia in february at that age,i certainly wont if i live that long :)

Yes agreed, but you're missing my point. If they're going to go... GO! Don't drive up in a van, park half a mile away, roll your bike out the back and turn up for one night of getting pissed before putting your shiny toy back in the van and going home to tell all the boys in the office how hard core you are!
(Oops I seem to have had a rant :-[)

I agree that these days there are a lot of 'new-era' 'rallyists', often notable from their pocket-rocket machines and lack of camping gear (badge collectors - you often see lots of them heading home in the other direction if you're late arriving). I can't say I'm enthusiastic about their presence, especially those I have the misfortune to know who boast of 'doing the Dragon' but would never dream of overnighting there. It was suggested to me once, and it's not unreasonable (though might not gain favour from the organisers due to the extra work they'd have to do) that rally badges should be handed out on the Sunday morning only, the gates being closed to incoming machines. I have had dialogue with Conwy Club senior members who acknowledge the 'changing face' of rallying and their acceptance that without these wusses the Dragon wouldn't be able to continue :(
That said, I did encounter many hard-coreists last year, as usual, and I suppose with that comes the realisation that I am one of them :)
It is on my list of things-to-do-before-I-pop-my-clogs that I shall attend the Dragon and camp, with as much comfort gear as I can carry for the c120 mile trip, which unfortunately rules out the gazebo & camping stool, using my '68, 2-stroke, single-cylinder, BSA, trail-bike trim, Bantam 'Thumper' (feel the power - rock off man!)

point taken, but dont let the namby pamby brigade ruin your weekend, last years dragon for me was a bit strange as i camped with the thumper club lads for the first time and a great bunch they are but not knowing anyone previously i was probably a bit quieter than usual.(or some kind of social misfit) ill be there this year again and intend enjoying every minuite of it. ;D

Your age range is not wide enough, those who still attend the Dragon from early days, and quite a few do, seeming to be between 60 and 85. I believe there are older attendees but I do not know them. I do hope that you do live to be older than that and will still find something unique in the Dragon so that you will, like us "Old Farts", keep coming back for more.
