Just when I thought it was safe to go back into the garage.....I saw the "Hybrid" looking a little forlorn on one side....I was never 100% happy with the frame that I had to use at the time (Frames seem to be like buses, none at all then a loads appear at once). Anyway to cut a long story a bit shorter, I obtained a frame off beeman (thank you John) which I have repaired & had powder coated the same colour and Im now in the process of rebuilding it, improving and modifying as and where necessary. A change of colour for the paintwork is on the cards (no suggestions this time Bill!!) as I bought a NOS front mudguard off fleabay.
Progress will be recorded as and when I can find time.
(Original frame now scrapped)

You just put me to shame Ian. :-[
My regards, Bill.

Never my intention Bill :-[

;) Still clearing space to commence battle! ;)

Old frame made un-useable ....I was surprised or rather shocked to see how easy it was to cut the frame in two...very soft metal (according to spec "High Tensile Square Tubing)

Ah!Ha! Tate Modern and the Turner prize winner! £25K to you Ian. ;)
That's why there's funds for another rebuild! :)
I'm just looking forward to see the new colour scheme.
Thank you Ian.
Bill.

I wish Bill!!...off to Stafford tomorrow to see if I can get a few odds and sods a bit cheap..(ha ha)

Rebuilding "new" frame now with hacked down airbox (to suit larger battery req for leccy start) and rear mudguard. I need to seal the airbox rubber flaps against the frame and rear plastic guard. I think pop rivets and sealant may come into play this time. Any thoughts Bill? (not enough bluetack available). Top/bottom yokes already fitted with taper roller brgs. Im off to see the sprayer on Monday to negotiate either a new colour scheme or an update of present one. (Depending on result of this will determine if seat needs recovering or not). Im hoping to see this one back on the road early summer.
Ian :)
(Funny how you get emotionally "attached" to certain bikes)

UPDATE:
Looks like the seat may need recovering ;)

Just had a few hours to spare after I had been out to the local bike meet with the Monoshock. (Yes it is being ridden!). Started to put the wiring harness back on to the "new hybrid". OMG I had forgotten how I did it first time (2 and half years ago!!! I need to find the photos out and complete the job....altogether tho having said that, a satisfying evening in the garage. More news soon!

Knit One, Pearl One, Knit One, OH! ???
;)
Regards, Bill.
P.S. Pop rivets and silicone reads OK! 8)

Thats a bit technical Bill!! :o

Slightly offtopic but here is the Monoshock on its travels (but mentioned in an earlier posting)....the road in the foreground is the A5 Watling Street....possibly one of the busier roads through Shropshire and not recommended for taking photos of bikes on!

Looks well Ian. :)

Bit more progress.... wiring virtually done, just needs tying up and tidying up. Odds and ends being repainted as I go along just to brighten things up a bit..I dont want it looking like a dustbin after all ;). Plenty to do as yet.
Watch this space

Bit of progress, a few bits sent off for plating (including bits off the engine and carbs) yesterday. Hopefully get them back Friday so I can "motor on" over the holiday. LH switch now rebuilt from 3 different switches so now I have a "Pass" switch. The original one I fitted was from Germany and didnt have a pass switch on it, and I have accumulated a few broken ones so put them to good use.
Also just found a piece of stainless bar in my toolbox so I will use it to make a gearchange rod with LH/RH threads on it. (managed to borrow an M6 LH die ;D).

Sunday 10th June.....Oil Tank repainted, front top end finished apart from fitting levers, cables, possibly a fly screen, (& re-routing of front brake pipe..maybe)

Friday 20th July
Im just waiting for paintwork. Seat has been recovered in more appropriate colours to match new colour scheme. (Old cover will be available if anyone is interested, very cheap). Carbs to rebuild, and just a few odd jobs to finish off. My timescale was never really fixed for this but wanted to complete it before main holiday. Hopefully I may manage it. Im afraid my colours wont be as dramatic as carbon motos excellent job on the honda. Hopefully post more pics over the next few days.
Thanks once again for support in doing this (bigger than I wanted it to be) project!

Hi there
Been out of circulation a bit
Found a registration document for a 600 Srx
I wonder if it relates to a frame you have.

OOOOoH, Ian!
Very smart restoration, with all your quality. ;D
Paint design! :-X MMMMmmm!
I hope you enjoy riding the beastie or else it fetches a good price, if and when you 'move it on'.
Thank you for sharing the build with us.
My regards, Bill.

Nice job Ian, what with you and Arnold I don't stand a 'cat in 'ell's chance with my rebuilds. Got the RS down to the crankcase now and I'm waiting for Wemoto to send me a 22mm flywheel puller (half the price D.Silver charges) then I'll split the cases. Looks like I'll get away with gaskets/seals/rings/headrace set/powder coating + odds and sods.
Regards............Dave.

Tough job indeed. Congratulations.
Are you exhaust pipes standard or do you pick them on a monoshock SRX ?
-
The whole exhaust WAS a standard monoshock. I didnt have to modify the header pipes but the "silencer" was shortened by about 20m/m to give me clearance for the back wheel as the twin shock wheelbase is shorter.
-
Hi all
Hybrid Mk2 passed its MOT today, no advisories :D A few final (daylight)photos of completed rebuild (but I did take these before I fitted the mirrors, bar ends, and clamped the front brake pipe!!!)
Ian :D
PS
I may post photos of it on its travels being used :D :D
-
Looks great, Its always a relief when it passes the MOT

Thanks to Yamaha standardisation. I fiercly thought that the pipes of 3SX will fit well in a 1XL or 1JK .... And I'm still looking for exhaust pipes of 3SX ;)
