Oh Lordy Steve :o A Frenchman once said to a friend "Please, speak English, you are killing my language.." ;)
and the pedant in me just can't help but pick up the spelling!!
"Guten" maybe?
Oh and Thunder and lightning iirc would be "Donner und blitzen"... now I'd better just hope I got it right! :o
Did I mention I'd found out the origin of my surname last year....?

Hello Michael,

Welcome to the group.

I aren't going to even attempt any German. One of the last times I tried the guy I was talking to immediately asked which part of Switzerland I was from. Seems German with a Yorkshire accent is prone to cause confusion. That or my German is better than I think (which I doubt).

Depends where you live. The "Yorkshire branch" try to meet occasionally but this ain't any good if you live in London etc.

There are a number of us near you Michael but, what with varying work commitments (my shifts for example) meeting up can be a problem. However Brighton's Terry Lee and myself in Shoreham always make the Annual Rally in July and other events if at all possible. Welcome to this great club of ours.

And if you are ever looking to tour through South Wales - or here for any other reason - there are a number of us here - and I am sure one of us could find you a bed.

hm i`m in littlehampton west sussex , but a move to  south wales  could happen soon (my company is making redundancys but creates jobs in south wales )
have heard its a nice place to ride around,
and some say the cost of living is cheaper or others say it isn`t cheaper, but you get more for your money :-)

where i come from in germany  : a small village near ludwigshafen, the part of germany is called the pallatine (south west germany near the french border)

South Wales is in some places a little run down - but getting better.  Cardiff can be expensive as can the Vale of Glamorgan.  In the main it is cheaper to buy and rent etc than over where you are.  Differential to wages means that people tend to have more disposable income in Wales as a percentage of their total income - but less than in absolute terms.

If you do not like rain do not move to South Wales - it is a major export....

Yes, South Wales is nice because there's a lot of open country not far away from the towns and cities and a very pretty coastline. It doesn't have the sort of biking culture of places like the Midlands, etc, but we get enough bikers visiting Wales on the weekend to keep us happy :-)
