Hi everyone!
Yesterday I won an SRX400 on ebay. Hurrah!!! I'm not collecting it until Sunday though.
The seller states that it needs a new front tyre (current one is on legal limit) - does anyone have any tyre recommendations please?
Thanks.

Aye sfb,
Welcome and congratulations! :)
Bridgestone BT45 or Avon RoadRider. Haven't tried Continental, but not heard bad spoken. Dunlops are good, but maybe wear a bit quick, K82 under 3,000 miles on the back afore the canvas showed! ::) ::) ::) Metzeler/Pirelli, I used to use, until rapid wear, variable wear and delaminating tread from the carcase and some wee slides changed my opinion! :( Maxxis if you can get them do good mileage, but can be a bit on the hard side and skaty in cold wet weather.
Hope you enjoy the SRX.
My regards, Bill.

My main recommendation would be to stick with the stock sizes, oversized tyres mess with the handling.

Bridgestone BT 45, definitely. Sizes and pressures are:
F110/80 H17 2.3 Bar
R12080 H18 2.5 Bar

Earlier twinshock models have different sizes. Details can be found HERE (http://www.srx600.net/technical/gen_spec/genspec8.php&heading=Chassis)

Thanks! That gives me some good ideas to start with, I'll check out the prices and sizes later.

Aye sfb,
I cannot emphasise enough the importance of Steve's comment above and his recommendation that you check the tyre sizes for the earlier twin shock model.
A 110/80 H17 on the front of 'Sally' SRX600 1986 (had the 1987 3 spoke alloy wheels fitted from a SRX400), made her roll like a drunken sailor on shore leave, on banding, tar joints, linear abraded surfaces and worst of all, the tramlines/ditches/canals created on worn out roads by 'Super-single' lorry wheels.
Re-fitting a standard 100/80 H17 made a completely confidence inspiring front end return. No weave or wander and rapid steering. :)
Check your pressures every time you go out, a couple of points out in Bars or psi will make all the difference.
'Super-singles' is a rant subject in my opinion and I need the shut eye tonight! >:( So will say no more.
All the best, Bill.

Well, it's currently got an Avon Roadrider rear tyre and a BT45 front. The front needs replacing soon so I suppose the obvious thing to do is get a Roadrider to match the rear?
I think RoadRiders are what I've got on my little Tribsa and they seem good. Equally, the BT45 were good when I had my W650.

Ok, sorry to go back to this one - my tyres got through last years MOT but now definitely need replacing - the rear one is showing cracks in the sidewalls.
The link above says I should have Front 100/80-18 and Rear 120/80-18
M&P recommend Avon Roadriders in 100/90-18 and Rear 120/90-18. Is this the size other owners of twinshock SRXs are using ?

If you're on a twinshock... then stick with the stuff SteveH posted... any deviation from that has in my experience been a retrograde step
120/80/18 rear
100/80/18 front
I've found nothing better than Bridgestone BT45's and I use 30psi front and back

I've been using em on my old Beemer and I wouldn't be easily swayed away. The grip is great wet or dry and no issues with regards to what can only be described as "feel". They may be a tad wider, size for size, than other brands. Pressures I run are to the original recommendations, wear rate is a bit of a downer for me, but the grip and feel outweigh that. They heat up nic and quickly.

BT45s for me...

With Avon you need to mount a 90/90/18.
The 100/90/18 is too high and it will touch the front fender rivets. Then the rivets will chafe and your fender will vibrate and touch the tyre. So you'll have a ruined fender (split on the front), ruined rivets, and a tyre with two new lines engraved on the rubber...
I haven't experienced it personally, but many french (and swiss) SRX owners had this bad idea.
Moreover it will give you the impression to ride a truck because it's too wide. Avon are good tyres whatever conditions.
BT45 are very good but the front tyre have a funny way to use. It doesn't interfere with security but you can feel very slight vibrations.
