Title: SLR650 shock - any alternatives?
Post by: Frog on November 07, 2011, 07:34:58 PM
Hi

I am heavy (110kgs) and need a stiffer rear shock on my SLR650 - can anyone recommend an alternative to standard?

Preferably one that lowers it a little and one I  can get secondhand!

Cheers

The answer to my question is a zxr400 shock - although it is not a straight bolt on swap.

The honda shock has 10mm eyes whilst the zxr ones are 12mm - I bushed the zxr shock with 12mm od 10mm id steel tube (B&Q). You need a new nut and bolt for the bottom shock mount.

Also needed to use all of the pre-load on the zxr shock (but I am heavy!).

One the road much improved - does not bottom out and less 'boingly'!

Lowers the bike - I would guess 20 -30 mm but the standard side stand is usable - just!

I am happy with it ;D
