Title: srx400 cylinder head
Post by: guest668 on August 10, 2011, 08:41:45 PM: hi was wondering if anyone has come across anything like this on the srx400 cylinder head...was cleaning it up when i noticed this burr or lump near the exhaust port....would it be ok to file it down? could it be a repair? also has anyone ever done any porting work on the 400 is it worth it or possible.

Maybe smooth it out so a sto remove a 'local hotspot', but no need to remove (extra compression!).

As for porting etc. I've only ever taken casting sprues, ridges etc out. Opening up ports can slow the gas flow, rather than speed it up, so you actually get less grunt. ??? If you keeping it on the road and not going to fit high lift, long duration cams, don't give yourself the grief. Clean up the rough edges, a less restictive, clean air filter, a free flowing exhaust with some back pressure and a check on the fuel mixture, should be plenty for years of reliable riding. ;D

K&N panel filter in the box is quite good I think. SRX600 fitment. Maybe open up the opening in the box a little? (Or find an alternative airbox lid and modify that first??)

As Andy230 suggests, K&N flat panel filter in the air box does the job fine.

Check Fleabay and other online sites for alternative prices and BEFORE YOU PART WITH THE DOSH, CHECK THE MEASUREMENTS GIVEN FOR THE INTERNAL DIMENSIONS OF THE AIRBOX AND YOUR CURRENT FILTER! I've only fitted the to SRX600, but Andy has fitted them to SRX400, I believe. ;)
