Morning
Has anybody got experiance with the 1jk clutch, mine is slipping under heavy load/acceleration at about 4000rpm causing the revs to rise and acceleration to falter if I ease off then reaply the throttle she pulls smoothly again. How easy are the clutches to change, is there any information available on how?
Also what oil grade are people running as I can't get hold of the 20w40 anywhere.
thanks
Dave

I use Castrol 10W40 without any problems.
The clutch is relatively simple to change, clutch cover off and six retaining screws (13 in diagram) no special tools required.

I am curious about your description. You say acceleration 'falters' when it slips, is this a smooth slowing down of the bike or something else, falter seem to suggest its not smooth, so seems odd.

falter may be a bad use of the word, the revs race towards the red line with no increase in acceleration almost as though the torque is exceeding the clutch's grip. But once you ease off and then throttle up again it pulls again, it is usually worse if on a slope although will also do it on hard acceleration on the flat.

Aye Dave,
As SteveH says with the strip. If you have the bike on the sidestand you can take the cover off without loosing the oil. I found no wear in my plates and the springs little shortened, but had been using car grade 10-40W semi-synthetic oil.
Washed everything down with brake cleaner, re-assembled with original plates, new springs, new 'original equipment' Yamaha gasket (having had a pattern one blow, putting oil all over the back wheel at 60mph+ through some bends! :o) and used 10-40W Halfrauds semi-synthetic motorcycle oil.
No more slipping and no sign of wear increase or problems with the engine to-date, 12K miles ago.
Hope this helps.
Regards, Bill.

Did Exactly as Bill said (and i use the same oil, always have.....i just change the oil regularly)... and it worked a treat... you don't want to be using car oil.... not suitable for wet clutch systems.
