Title: Weekend debrief
Post by: Steffan on January 28, 2007, 07:18:13 PM
Well I for once I actually managed a bike related activity this weekend. On Friday I fitted the handlebar muffs to the MZ thus completing it's preparation for winter (if it every arrives) Today I got the skorpion out and on still not being happy with the handlebar set up I dismanted the throttle side and with a bit of strong arm tactics manage to seperate the bar mounting from the riser. I then got be delightful Misses to sit on the machine and adjust the handlebars until they were comfy and even - just goes to prove that a wife can have more than one use after all - mind you I never subscribed to that sort of paternalistic view . Nipped it up and then double checked it myself - finally after much work and nearly two years they may be just about cock on ie back to normal. Phew.

So what exciting things did you lot get up to then?

Firewooding all day Saturday. A very nice man wants his shelterbelt thinned and it's all ash, about 20 year old. Best of stuff after a summer in the polytunnel dryer.

More firewooding today at home, after coming to terms with the two car, 5 deaths and one 'maybe' survivor crash, 4 miles up the road. The emergency boys weren't hanging about passed our place last night and our thoughts go to them, the off duty copper and mini bus occupants who arrived on the scene first and dragged the only survivor out of the Corsa and all the families who are affected.

Took Sally SRX and Boy Bros out this afternoon for a run. Warm (12C) not much wind and mainly dry roads but lethal greasy, salt, diesel, water mixture in the shady bits. Good run by the back roads to the Tay Bridge, hot chocolate and millionare's shortbread before the return run via Cupar and Newburgh. Sally two wheel drifting on a roundabout! Then decided the battery wasn't up for it after the winter, despite being drip fed and kept in a warm room. Rode the last 10 miles with failing side lights and nowt else and Kat on the Boy Bros as a back marker! The Avo is coming out this week and a new battery, plus check that alternator and the new rectifier!

Morini the Minx progresses, slowly, flywheel off and the £30-00 toothed timing belt ready to go on. Fluid from the front brake looked and poured like treacle so all is dismantled and ready for re-assembly with new fluid. I much prefer Bowden cable and springs and shoes.

Finally, yes the XSR1 looks as though it could be good, BUT, its all tucked away behind that bloody beam frame. Egli single spine tube frame, or a Rickman Metisse just makes things easier to get at and straighten if required. Thats why I find SRX's a pain, it's all tucked away and you have to disembowel the beast before you can get your hands into anything.

My regards to all, Bill.

Strange weekend in some ways.

Spent Saturday griping about my dead landy before attacking my old sidecar bike with a grinder to free up the welded sidecar lug (after I'd seperated the bike from the chair for the first time in... erm... aagh... can't remember, 8 years?). In the evening I headed off to a mate's house for beers with Jethro and Julian.

On Sunday morning Julian arrived to drive me up to his tame welder's house to get my sidecar lug welded to the new XBR frame's downtube. The rest of the day was devoted to my tax return.

Due to the lack of vehicles, today I borrowed Mrs Onepot's little Nissan to go to Glynneath to plaster a room and on the way back dropped off the membership paraphenalia at Pat's (he looks fine, I don't know what he's moaning about) :-)

I'm still doing my tax, but I'm hoping to get half an hour now to strip down a capiler on the GB outfit.

Cheers

So you were in Glynneath and did not stop by for a cuppa ....

Or maybe you did and I was doing mortal combat with Mk 1 and Mk 2 son - The Boss was working late - and I did not notice.

Hope the landy / bike are sorted soon

I had to get to Pat's so I headed back down the A470 instead of the M4
