Post by: guest668 on April 07, 2011, 09:09:09 PM

If you have still got the original flasher unit on the bike then I suggest you look at the spade connectors firstly, they have a habit of kankering up. If all seems well then you can try a car type flasher unit at a fraction of the cost of the original Yamaha unit. Also if you have changed the indicators for smaller ones then check the wattage of them and compare to the output of the relay.

I found its very easy to mount then upside down and they then fill with water, the plastic case comes off easily might be worth checking for corrosion inside as well

thanks for the help ... have got the indicators to flash now but they only do this while bike is running....am wondering if the problem is still with the charging system? couple of indicator bulbs were blown, wattage is ok, have checked flasher unit and it is ok

Battery???????????

Check for acid level, vent pipe still venting. Does it hold charge? Are plates buckled, clagged up?

Also regulator in behind the rear light. Mine was fried, replacement Yamaha didn't change things (returned to Yamaha and given a refund!), but Electrex replacement regulator worked and stopped the 'boiling battery' syndrome!  ::)

Do you have wiring diag etc?

Regards, Bill.

Had similar problem with indicators only flashing with the engine running when I first got got my srx although weirdly also only at certain rev points which would change randomly depending on how the bike felt at the time ;) That was down to the battery being boll**ksed - if my experience is anything to go by the headlight will also be as weak as a glow worm farting in a mineshaft. Mind you I still ran the bike like that for over a year ::) ::) - aren't kickstarts great ;D

somewhere on here i posted the halfrauds part number for a replacement flasher unit.....failing that my local bike shop do a yamaha 'lookalike' which i know works 'cos i've just fitted one to the srx i'm rebuilding....for a tenner

lets face it, if the battery is so flat that it wont flash the indicators, then it certainly wont spin the starter motor or fire the ignition.
so, assuming that the battery is ok (youve got a multimeter right?) check the voltage with the bike standing and switched off, and again with the engine running. you will be getting 13-14 volts. if its just the indicators then you are looking at either, a duff relay, theyre easy and cheap to replace to check, cos even a duff relay might flash if it gets enough current, are the indicators bright when they come on or are they a bit dull? when they do flash is it quick or slow? do they flash on and off positively or just fade in and fade out? if you want to get to the bottom of this, then you need to give us all the information you can.
i assume the bulkbs are all clean and theres no connections loose or corroded, i also assume you have good clean earth connections(earths or the lack of are the cause of about 80% of electrical faults on jap bikes)
try and get some more information on it and we might be able to be more specific. you could have a duff switch on the bars, but without any more specific info we cant really do more than guess.

Aye John,

On SRX6 twin shock, independent coil for ignition from charging circuit, so it will run with no/knackered battery. Might cook the rest of the electrics mind! ???

As for the later mono-shock? I've no experience of the beast, so can't say if the same applies.

I still think beezer764 needs to look at the battery, afore going elsewhere.

Hope the weekend is treating you well.  :)

regards, Bill.

its, probably the battery. Had this problem with both my srx's. didn't bother me in the slightest though as long as the flashy things worked when i was riding it, and of course at mot time was happy.

thanks for all responses im thinking battery to now gave it fresh charge and indicators flashed for a while then would only flash when engine started ...this battery has been used on both my srx's and if the rectifier has gone on the 600 (which i think it has) wouldn't have done the battery any favors.  SO i will replace battery anyway and see how it goes.

By the way has anyone tried motobatt sealed battery on their srx have seen one on wemoto meant to give 20% more cranking power than other batteries.

If you have the 'twin shock' it doesn't matter, it's what your right legs for! ;¬) Might be more resistant to 'single' vibes though than conventional 'wet' battery. Acid is held differently against the plates.

That's a result then, if the battery stays charged!  ::)
