Just dropped via the local petrol station to put some juice in the car, and am almost crying from the horror of it all. Tonight (pre VAT rise) it is £126.9 a litre. I splashed out £40 and got a measly 31.5 litres which wont even fill half the tank. :o :o
And to cap it all, the train fares are going up at a rate above inflation.
Sorry about what appears to be a rant. It is meant to be a sorry tale of woe as things are looking expensive to me and I may need to change my gas-guzzling MT-03 for something else. It does 43mpg, it's predecessor the YBR125 did 120mpg. Hmm. Must fix my SRX400 as that is more fuel-economic than the MT-03.
As an alternative, I may have to work from home more. Not sure how the boss will take "I cant afford the petrol or the train fare to come to work today..." 8)

;-)
Mind you, I know how you feel, had to put diesel into swmbo's car three times over the holiday :o £1.29.9 at the local Tesco BEFORE they add the rises... :'(

Perhaps we shall see (anti VAT rise) riots like the poll tax ones of yesteryear?

Good point, perhaps this would suit you more, your favoured number of wheels and somewhere to put the beer (after all, there is no offence of drunk in charge of a bicycle (really!!))

In OZ it is an offence with the same penalties whether you are in charge of a car, mbike, cycle or even a Horse.... especially if the horse is soussed as well. Same goes for speeding too
REVENUE???????
yep!!!!!

Late mate was fined for being drunk in charge of a horse and cart in Kirby Lonsdale. ;D
They ignored his defence that the horse was in charge, not him. :(

Yup, you will certainly get told to get off and push if obviously inebriated, however I'm told by those who know that the only charge applicable is drunk in a public place (which can also be used in a pub!!). No licence to endorse and more likely to hurt yourself than anyone else I guess.
Giving you a bo**ocking and sending you on your way ticks the boxes for the Police and is sensible and easy. Of course if you get lippy you may find that you have been drunk and disorderly or similar!
ps. I'm not advocating in any way drinking and riding, just saying... and you are all (I hope) grown ups!) ;)

I used to ride a recumbent bike to and from work. The journey usually took half an hour. One year I attended the on-site Christmas party and left for home a little (ok, very) pissed.
The trick with a recumbent is to get your foot down sharpish when you stop as the pedals are some 12 - 18 inches higher from the ground than a traditional bicycle. On that particular night the journey home took an hour and a half. Every time I stopped I just fell sideways onto the road and lay there giggling for a couple of minutes ::)
I'm not proud, but it was very funny ;)

I've had a good few recumbents over the past 12 years and still have one old recumbent bike but...
I SAW THE LIGHT ::) and I now use the Trice, recumbent trike, an it iz wunnerful cos I can't fall off it!
I know the charge of "Cycling furiously" is still law in England so I want to start a nationwide competition to see who can get the wierdest reason for being charged with that one!

In the late 1960's I used to do 25mile time trials in North Staffs, on one A50 roundabout the police used to stop anyone they thought was riding the roundabout with "excessive speed" even though there were race marshalls slowing the regular traffic..... stop/go penalty on a time trial ??? >:(

I read somewhere there is an ongoing effort by some lawyers down south to get charged with it as it is still on the statute books but hasn't been used for some crazy number of years, I had thought it was "pedalling furiously" but as my memory seems to be failing I could well be wrong!

I seem to remember some bloke being charged with that offence about ten years ago... I think he was nudging 50mph downhill in a 30 limit.

Good effort! I can easily get over 40 on the hill down to town from here but I've yet to manage 50!
