Hi all,
Well I've had a reasonably pleasant 2010, with a bit of fun on this site.
When you go to your celebrations tonight please take care not to come unstuck.
Drink moderately and drive carefully. Lets see all of us back next year.
disclaimer: Those having a pissup at home need not comply with these wishes so really fang it up!

Happy new year to you too Kurt.
I'm having an at-home evening after a bit of a drunken session last night... as my wife will tell you I always peak early ;)
All the best in 2011 to all you TCers and thanks for all the fun in 2010.

Yup Happy New Year to you too Kurt, I trust the floods we're hearing about are missing you, wouldn't want to live down there with all that unpredictable Christmas weather mate, dunno how you cope ;)
Funnily enough I managed my first ham radio contact with an Aussie this morning, bloke down near Brisbane on a VK4 callsign, very very pleased here, 100w a manual CW key and a limited antenna, like using a thumper to do what others do with hyperbikes lol 8)

Thanks for the concern Smudge, but we here in Perth have very predictable weather at the moment, hot bloody hot and hotter. We are in a serious drought with water restrictions. Its the tutherenders that are having serious problems. They were in drought for many years till now.
The outcome will be that Lake Eyre will probably fill up again this year and if any of you are considering something different, this is an event to see.
I once played with CB, but now only use it very occaisionally on longer trips.
I am off to Melbourne next week and a big silver bird is going to take me there, 3 hours out ,4 hours back straight flight with Qantas.

It's difficult to comprehend the scale of the flood. Heard this morning that it's covering the equivalent area of France and Germany combined. :o

It strikes me that this is a typically Scottish view of the world and I'm amazed you Scots haven't got your own word for it. ;) ;) ;) ;)

Only applies to those who insist on telling us how much nicer their weather is then admit to rain as I admire the sunny view from here ;)
As to my own word for it... did I mention the derivation of my surname (Schmi... erm... Smith(!))

Sorry Smudge, please do not read this as a rant, rather an explanation to why and how. I didnt refer to how much nicer our weather was..only how hot it is.... The hotter it gets the harder it is to ride a bike...one can rug up if its cold but you can't unrug when it gets hot unless sunburn, windburn and gravel rash are ok. When I say its too hot to ride I mean its too hot to ride. I do occaisionally take the piss when its perfect, but thats usually only in spring and autumn. When it does rain in summer its a relief to all and sundry, and it was the coincidence of making a point about the drought and then it raining within a day. Apart from going to and from work, I havent ridden anything or anywhere for about 3 weeks.
Mind you the hot weather does have advantages: :o :o :o ;D ;D ::)

Hi Kurt, it gets to 40ºC here in July/Aug... T-shirt biking :) The local bikers just wear shorts, t-shirts, minimal footwear and rarely a helmet. ::)
Even the bike cops wear fabric riding trousers (like the horsey people wear) short sleeved shirts, open-face helmets and sunglasses along with shiny high boots; very much California Highway Patrol, in green for Guardia, blue for Policía, very YMCA. ;)
Midwinter now though: 6ºC min, 16º max and RAIN today :( Cops in armoured Gore-Tex, but usually to be found hiding in a quiet bar when the wet falls.

Only teasing Kurt, besides, too hot for a bike means it's time to put the "Bikini" top on your series landy, take it down the coast and go diving! ;)
-
No worries Smudge, I could tell by the emos'
Unusually for me I was only trying to say that I dont always take the the piss. I use these forums as though I am sitting at a table sipping a coffee etc and talking to my mates.
PS You stick to your topless Landies, and I'll drive the wife's airconditioned Imprezza
and wear mirrored sunnies. :P :P :P

"PS You stick to your topless Landies"

I drink with a bloke who has ridden in the States (Nevada) in the summer and he said "you winter-riding types think you're hard, but when you're cold you can get warm. When you're too hot you're fucked".
