Title: So that was Xmas!
Post by: steveD on January 05, 2007, 02:07:38 PM
Didn't do Xmas and worked on the Boxing day, Wed and Thurs days
With the weather in mind I shoved the SRX plus plenty of camping gear into the Transit and drove down to meet Rick in Southampton on the Friday 29th.
We loaded Ricks XT plus camp gear and drove up to a camp site at a place called Meare near to Glastonbury. Spent the evening sat in the back of the van as it was lashing it down and winds of 50+ mph. One gust flattened my tent and I had to splint the boken pole with a 'pokey stick'!
Went out for a ride next day (Saturday) and ended up at the local cider farm where it proceeded to pour down. After the obligatory sample and with supplies in tow ie cheese, pickle and cider we set off in even greater rainfall to get back to the site.
Sat in the local pub for a few pints in the afternoon before heading back to the site where we made a rudimentary lean-to with a ground sheet and lit the Jiko.
Despite the rain and wind we had a pleasant evening and didn't get that wet. Both tents stayed up in spite of the howling gale!
Loaded bikes and gear up next day and set off back to Ricks place where we dried out and had a splendid New years eve meal.
Sunshine next day so we went off for another ride around into the New Forest, saw quite a few ponies but no Deer!
Dry ride for a change!. Another evening at Ricks place and then loaded and set off home on the Tuesday (@6 hour drive back home)
Now all I need is some work!
.....and it's too miserable outside to fit the new aluminium panniers that I got for the DR or the engine bars for that matter, and the SRX needs washing!
Hope you lot had a good time as well!

Sounds like you had a corker matey. I'd take a few days camping against kids fighting over what DVD to watch.

In truth ours was a pleasant and quiet Christmas (once we got the kids calmed down) and I'm ready for whatever the new year brings.

Quiet Christmas at swmbo's mothers house in Crawley then back up here for an even quieter hogmanay! My regular dive buddy John visited so we had a little quarry dive between christmas and new year and then another on the 2nd, oh and LOADS of falling down water :) . Had a quick splat out by the Isle of May in the Firth of Forth yesterday but the viz was lousy... other than that a very quiet holiday, oh and swmbo took me furniture shopping this morning so we've now got a ludicrously expensive sofa and chairs on order :o
On the plus side a web friend from the states has just ordered me a new HF radio and portable antenna a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than I could have bought it in UK/Europe :) So that may make an appearance under my bivi at the next rally! (Anyone thinking of telling swmbo that I've bought it should remember I have a blowtorch, pliers and some very quiet locations I can hide the body...)
Back to work Monday though... ho hum  :(
