Title: Honda Dominator where's the oil coming from ??
Post by: guest1017 on October 06, 2010, 05:35:44 PM
Hi All hope you guys can help with this one , my Honda Dominator has oil around the bash plate hard to tell where it's coming from , no seals are leaking but it appears to be coming from either the cam cover breather pipe or the oil header tank overflow tube , no oil comes out on tick over but at say a constant 70 mph it will dump half a liter of oil , i've run both overflow and breather hoses into a bottle for now , the bike runs fine with no smoke or rattles , should the cam cover breather hose vent to atmosphere ? .

Did you overfill the oil tank? The level can only be checked after the engine's been idling upright for a minute or two. Then check it immediately, before it has a chance to drain back into the sump. Check the level without screwing the dipstick in.

thanks for the reply, i checked the oil level as per the manual , it was very low , so i topped it up as you describe after warming it up, this weekend i will change the oil and filter , is there some kind of screen that could be blocked , i've had the bike for a year but not used it much i prefer my XBR .
