From the Honda website:

Why couldn't they have sold this version instead of the XBR? I guess we will never know.

Ah, it would have been a shame if they hadn't made the XBR. The GB is prettier and they might (who knows?) have sold more of them, but the XBR has its own angular charm as well. I see to recall reading somewhere that 1500 XBRs were sold, I think that was for the UK (but could have included Australia for all I remember).

OK given my computer doesn't have the characters, and even if it did I couldn't read them, what's the Honda press office saying about 1985 GB500's (or 400's for all I know!)

I'm surprised they aren't bringing these back. With Bonnevilles and Harley Sportsters selling like hot things and the sensible bike press going nuts over the retro Ducati's you'd have thought they'd fish out the mouldings and look for a suitable commuter to nail 'em on to. The GB with the fairing even looks like the Ducati but that might just be the colour.

They should use the bodywork to make a road bike out of an XR650R, and hide the side radiators in the fairing.
