So here we are again, another year passed and we are into the Winter camping madness and the Ritualistic, Masochistic meet that is the Dragon. Dates have now been posted and plans being made. I have on your behalf been in touch with Petes' Eats in Llanberis to book the bunkhouse as usual. Lo and behold someone has already booked the place for next year Friday the 11th February. Now I know that the usual miscreants that have met there before have had a good time but did anyone mention the place to anyone else????????
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO without further adoo I have had a bit of a search (I lie!) the nice lady at Petes' mentioned another place just up the road about 3 miles away from the village that has two bunk rooms, one for 10 and the other for 8. I have booked the lot as this next years' meet will be the 50th and I'm sure we can collectively fill all of the berths.
The place is called 'The Snowdon Inn' (Fricsan, Cwm-y-Glo) Food will hopefully be available (I will endeavour to arrange this), camping available, the owner that I have spoken to assures me that good beer is available, showers etc and the place is getting a good reputation for good music as well. £8 per person but I am informed that you will need your own sleeping bag.
So there we have it. You can use this thread to inform the rabble if you would like to have a place reserved.
I will start

Crusty (Big Mark)

Mrs Foxy not up to it this year. Tried it once....found it a bit cold on the way back.

Same here. Wrote the SAE's, found the cheque book, enquired if I should be buying two tickets, was told to do something biologically unlikely and almost certainly painful with a large piece super cooled of camping gear :o
Anyone fancy a bit of camping on the Friday night somehwere?
Andy
-
Sent off for my ticket today. Was thinking about taking Oldest Child but have decided against. He is a bit fond of his creature comforts.
<ticket now here> Looking forward rather a lot after a ******* year.

There's something a little unsettling about this quote next to that picture...

My provisional Dragon plans are to stay in Rhayader (half-way) on Thursday for a good beer and karaoke session in the Castle Hotel. Friday - breakfast in the Dolwen garage cafe and a leisurely ride to the bunkhouse near Llanberis. Saturday - Rally, Sunday - mad dash back to South Wales.
So far I have been unable to locate a cheap C90 Dragon bike so that plan is looking a little doomed. There's still time though ;)

I sent off for tickets yesterday.Rang the Glan Aber in Betwys today to find the bunkhouse already booked up.We want to stay in Betwys so the search continues ;D

I've stopped here in the past, you could give them a try http://www.thevagabond.co.uk/index.html
Not stopping there this year, and no I haven't booked the Glan Aber.

My tickets have arrived :-)
The envelope has been ripped open at some point but luckily the tickets are all still in there. The thieving git that decided to look inside must have not wanted to go to the Dragon. It's not the first time that I have had mail ''interfered'' with.

In the early days of the club we found that anything that looked like a parcel posted to members in London nearly always ended up missing or damaged.
One time we used a posting method for the newsletter that was suggested by a club member who regularly received another club's newsletter sellotaped together with the address printed on the back page. i.e. no envelope. To read the newsletter all you had to do was slice the sellotape. We tried this and it did save a lot of money on postage. However, nearly a third of them didn't arrive. It's tempting to think that Mr Postie took a shine to the magazine and kept it for himself.

You make it sound like junk mail, probably got binned.

Afternoon guys,
Any chances of adding me, my mate Phil and John to the list for the bunkhouse. For you guys that attended my XT meet in Hay on Wye in May might remember Phil Honda CB900, John the 76 XT500 with his partner Nicky the welsh cake queen.
Phil has also seen the light and sold the CB and bought a Suzuki DR650 Djebel, so is now a real thumper fan.
Hope we can squeeze in
Will

Is there any "On the Day" access to the Dragon? ???

You can usually get camping only tickets from,I think, the control caravan. These get you into the rally but no goody bag.

Not sure if I can get there so I'll wait and see a bit closer.
Have fun etc.

Johno is looking for a ticket if anyone knows of a spare. I have informed him that he would still be able to get in on the day and camp . Cheers ;)
-
Have been in touch with Snowdon Inn to confirm our booking for accommodation for the Friday 11 Feb for the Dragon.
All is OK, and I asked if he could arrange food for us. He said that if I could get in touch with him the week beginning with numbers he will put on a good hearty stew or similar for £5 per head.
Any extra bodies over and above our 18 allocation, he said can just sleep on the floor or they have unlimited camping!

I have mentioned before that I will get numbers of the bodies attending to the proprieter of the establishment, as he has said that he will put on some food for us, some sort of stew and mash, I will confirm this. My point in posting is to find out if anyone does not want this as I do not want to arrange this and then find myself with a bill for un-eaten food.
I count 13 for the bunkhouse and as the place will take 18 I need more bodies or will call him to say that the other places are available to anyone else that may need a bed for the night.
Please reply on this thread if you do not wish to be involved, the bloke metioned £5 per head which I think is reasonable. I need to telephone with numbers early this next week.
I will post some directions at the Petes' Eats place that I think you all know. Terry called me and I said that I would do this for him as I intend to get there mid afternoon. :P
-
Hi steve,
put us down for 3 of the stew or whatever, as long as its not lamb.
Cant wait
Will
-
Thanks for that Will, will do. ;D
-
Put Crusty down for a large portion of stew...... :P
-
Stew for me too. Any veggie options for Liz?
I just spoke to Simon M and he said that he will be joining me and Tim in Rhayader on the Thursday night. I'm aiming to make a good long weekend of it. We're staying at the Liverpool House guest house if anyone else wants to start the Dragon a night early.
I've just picked up a Kawasaki ER5 for the rally (my brother and I will be selling it when we get back). It needs a new chain and sprockets (and a sprocket carrier bearing)
The failed carrier bearing must have contributed to this terrible sprocket wear:
Needless to say I only noticed this after ragging the bike up the road ::)

I have been in touch with 'Ted' today at the Snowdon Inn and discussed with him our food request. He has advised / suggested a Beer and beef stew and a vegetarian curry for about 15 mouths. Hope this is acceptable.
Se ya there.
PS if you cannot find the place I will make sure that directions are left at Petes' Eats. ;D
-
Cheers Steve, much appreciated.

It's all getting a bit close to the wire here. The C&S have arrived and the bike will be carted off to my mechanic tomorrow morning (the bloody output shaft nut is refusing to budge and I don't have an air impact gun). The bike has a new oil filter and the sprocket carrier bearing has been replaced. My mechanic can fill it with oil, his stuff is as cheap as anywhere else.
I got insurance this morning and I will tax the bike tomorrow. I'm packing tonight.
It will be touch and go whether I get a proper ride on this bike before I leave on Thursday evening ::)
No bloody time to fit handlebar muffs!
GC
-
Ah all good fun GC. 2008 I bought my DR600 from Notts as a non runner on the last weekend in Jan, got a battery for it in the week, MoT on the Thursday and rode to the Dragon on it Friday.

I think that I will fit my muffs. It doesn't look like being too cold but they are the only way that I have ever found to keep my gloves dry.Do waterproof gloves really exist?
-
not found apair of waterproof gloves yet, unless you fancy riding in marigolds :)

I know that bike has gone on to better things, but it did look the bollocks in that piccy you posted of it.

Glove wise I swear by Heine Gericke two fingered Pathans. Of course you then have the difficult decision of whether to have them inside or outside the jacket sleeve. Outside and they will fill with water running down the arm.
I surmise that the simplet construction of two fingers enables a lesser likelihood of leaky seams.

Can I just say a big thank you to SteveD for organising the Snowdon Inn for the friday night.
The stew was tasty and filling and the entertainment was fantastic. It was great to meet old and new faces alike.
I must apologise to XTwill for my poor joke in telling him that his (XT club) rally venue had gone into receivership ;)
Who would have thought that we would have seen such good live music? No matter what your tastes, it's undeniable that all three acts were superb.
Here's one of the acts:
None of it would have happened without Steve's efforts and, to my shame, I don't think I even bought him a pint ::)
Three cheers for Dalby...
