Hiya Folks
I've finally got myself an XL600 after months of not making my mind up. It's a 1986 model, very scabby but very cheap. Has anybody here got one or had one? I'll be needing some advice knocking this thing into shape over the next few months, I think.
The carbs are completely fubar, I was wondering about the possibility of fitting a single carb from an XBR. Has anybody tried this or know whether it's a viable option? I've not measured things up yet but I'm rather hoping it'll bolt straight on without any serious modification. Any thoughts? and if it works, does anybody have a spare xbr carb and manifold?
Thanks,
Dave B

Forget I asked - just seen the price XBR carbs are going for :o Bugger that!

Aye Dave,
Have a look at KTM carbs on Fleabay, were not bad, but haven't checked and I have no idea what you might be contemplating.

It was just a thought, prompted by one of the mechanics at work. The XBR and XL600R have very similar engines but the XL has a twin carb set-up and the XBR has a single carb. Since my carbs are knackered and the stock XL carbs have a reputation for being a bit temperamental we were just pondering whether a swap was viable. I've trawled the Honda trail bike forums and can't find anything.
Doesn't really matter now, I've just picked up a good set of stock XL carbs for a really good price :)
Cheers,
Dave B

Not a viable swap anyway, the XL has twin inlet ports the XBR has a single bifrocated inlet port. I did do the opposite converion once, using an XL inlet manifold on an XBR head, it took a lot of ally welding and grinding to convert the head to twin inlet ports!

dr big suzuis and some of the yamaha thumpers use twin carbs.
