Title: SRX teething problems
Post by: leah on March 25, 2010, 12:20:03 PM
Hi all. At last getting near the end of my SRX 6 project & have connected the battery. All OK except indicators. They worked at first but now there's just a sound like a buzzing bee coming from the flasher unit both left & right & no flashing  ??? Can this be a knackered unit? Earthing problem? Did I read a post way back from Steve saying there was a cheaper more readily available flasher unit than Yamaha's stock item?

Next question- rear brake. The master cylinder piston was seized & I had to refurbish it with a new piston kit. When I bleed it there seems decent flow to the outermost side of the caliper (ie fluid is coming through quite well), but on the other side there doesnt seem to be enough pressure & the fluid comes through, but not strongly enough in my opinion. Does this sound like a caliper problem or master cylinder problem? I popped the caliper pistons out, cleaned it (but didn't separate it) & put new piston seals in. There's still no pressure although I can feel the pistons moving slightly when I push the brake pedal. Help!!  ??? ???

Its eay to mount the flasher unit upside down and then water gets into the unit wrecking it. You should be able to get a generic flasher unit from somewhere like wemoto. Ive a feeeling I bought one of these http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/PW-208-016/

As for the brake is the bleed nipple blocked ?. It is also worth making sure the pistons are pushed fully home when tryiing to bleed as it reduces the volume of air you have to bleed out.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestion Steve, I've bought a new flasher unit off Wemoto & will try it tonight. May get round to the brake issue again too.

i'll take some pics Ian- Rex doesn't look like much at the moment but these can be "before" pics. Hopefully the "after" will soon follow... long weekend of SRX-related activity-wahoo!

yup, halfrauds...i did post their part number for the flasher on here somewhere (but sounds like you have it sorted)....and i agree with steve.....take the bleed nipple out and clean it out (I use a wire off a wire brush)
