Title: Throttle grip greasing

Just a quick one, what type of grease is on the handlebar under the throttle grip? Will coppaslip do?

 if you want to be an anorak about it, it needs a grease that doesn't breakdown plastic or rubber, red rubber grease is the stuff.

OR, use the big tin marked 'GREASE'. i've used it many times with no problems on throttles.

I thought it was supposed to be either nothing or a dry lube of some sort?

I've never used anything on mine.

 i only ever use a smear of grease. its mostly to fill the gap between twistgrip and handlebar. without it the twistgrip can move a little up and down- its the sort of thing that drives you mental on a 200 mile motorway drag, along with the clutch and brake levers being slightly out of level......

Aye Dave,

Red rubber grease, about £10-00 + VAT for 500g tin, from motor factors. If none available, a wee touchy Oregon, liquid red grease, used to lubricate the rollers in the nose sprocket of chain saw bars. Not sloppy but hasn't the stickiness of ordinary grease, which can cause problems. Good stuff as well for putting beneath the cams etc. when assembling the engine, doesn't run down faces/drip. Comes in 1 litre plastic bottle. Most horticultural machine or arboricultural suppliers who deal with chainsaws. Price? Not known.

Thanks lads, bad news though- I've broken the centre stand on an existing weld- it tapers as well, I wanted to try and strengthen it with a tube grafted inside, but I fear that'll need a rethink   >:(

I use Wicks Bathroom and Kitchen white silicon sealant. It was the nearest thing to make the grip stick!

I don't think he wants to stick the grip to the tube, but to stop the tube gripping the bars.

Rubber safe grease is best but it shouldn't be in contact witht he rubber anyway so I've used all sorts.

I use Vaseline ......I also use it for lubricating the Throttle as well  ;)

AHA! Now I get it- no sealant is not the best stuff for that........

Mines always been a loose fit anyway (doesn't say much for the Mrs - or me come to that!)
