Title: any leg men in here?

 does anyone have any advice on cleaning up my fork legs?

they're currently covered in silver paint thats starting to peel. i'd like to have them in bare ally, not polished just bare with a little bit of a shine.

Start off with Nitromor paint stripper to remove the paint,then use 180 grit paper to remove any pits in the fork legs,when the surface is even and smooth use 400 wet and dry this will get you a satin finish after that it's down to how polished a finish you want,I cheated and used a polishing wheel at work,but you could get the same results with Autosolvo and elbow grease.

Aye bullet350,

You might also try the three grades of abrasive sanding pads, they are really good for cleaning up alloy and if you use parrafin or white spirit as a lubricant to reduce the dust and keep them cutting, they last really well. Also good for buffing steel and a whole host of other cleaning, smoothing, jobs. Off the shelf in B&Q and Homebase or Fleabay, I think.

For bling rather than a sheen, refer to Pat's XBR engine case renovation thread.  ;D

  thanks for the help.

 just got to wait for a day when its not pi$$ing it down so i can get going, no garage so its open air working only.
