what do people suggest then? i have a 1983 XL600 thats been stood a while, it wont start despite having a very good spark, when i popped the carbs off the engine a load of green fluid came out, no idea what it was, but im thinkin a good clean of the jets is in order, whats easiest and cheapest please? cheers

with the cost of carb rebuild kits your best bet is to get some carbs off a bike that was recently running.
i've been through the same and even when rebuilt, carbs that have stood rarely run right.

There's a few places doing that ultrasonic vibraty shaky washy thing that reports good results, not too expensive from what I saw in Uttoxeter last year.

the rubber bits in the carbs will often cost £40 or more per carb.
i got a carb rebuild kit for my cbr600 for £27, bargain i thought! except it was for one carb, not all four. and it consisted of one rubber for the float bowl and about 4 other o-rings.
bought 4 carbs for £20 off e-bay and it ran perfectly.
