Title: Possible Shed Meet & Camping
Post by: mini-thumper on July 20, 2009, 06:01:26 AM
Boys, Girls and Jethro
Went over to John Goode's house yesterday to see if he had any parts for my CB250RS and to discuss his plans for his up-coming 'Round-The-World' travels (see 'Up and Away' thread). The upshot of which was parts to repair my clocks, and the thought that I could organise a shed meet at his house as a Thumper based garage sale to raise much needed funds. He has literally tons of stuff - SRX 600/400 and XT600 parts, some modified for racing in SuperMono some not, loads of other bike parts, wheels, tyres and paddock stands, plus associated workshop stuff ie. small lathe, MIG welder, compressor, drill press, pipe bender etc. etc. The list is endless with plenty of potential for finding bits for 'specials'. PLEASE NOTE this would be an everything must go sale!

So is there any interest in meeting at John's (date to be confirmed but possibly within the next six weeks) for a chin wag, cup of tea/coffee, garage sale come grand auction, and/or followed by camping Saturday night up in the Peak District (about thirty miles away)?

Let me know either way and I'll organise, OR contact John direct as he has lots of 'good shite' to get rid of!

Cheers
Boyd

Egad, if there is a complete SRX400 monoshock engine going I could be tempted to venture away from home! Having priced up parts to fix mine, I think it will be cheaper to buy a whole new second hand one. I know the SRX600 mono engine will go straight in, but then I'll need the box of sparks and the carbs as well.... Oh, am I spending my MT-03 fund - drat.

I have bought a front end off John(omegaman), would anybody traveling to/from Johns/south Wales be able to transport it for me at anytime(where I can collect) to save John packing and arranging courier(and maybe save me a couple of quid :)).

Ta, Mark

If you are not in a hurry I could bring it down for you - this goes for any TC members based around Cardiff. My family live in Blackwood/Cardiff and I will probably make a trip soon after John's proposed sale!

Any idea of a date yet John? You need to strike whilst the iron is hot. Leave it too long and they will spend their money on other trinkets and fancies!!!! 15th or 22nd of August would suit me.

Hello Dave

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6823 (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6823)

Found this place after a trawl for pubs with campsites. Haven't been there before but the landlord seemed friendly enough on the phone and the reviews look favorable. It's also cheap! Hopefully se you there?

Went to the campsite yesterday. Excellent little site, good pub (very biker friendly) and near to town; but they need a rough idea of numbers*. I think I'll stay the Friday night as well (John's place is a 30-40 minutes interesting ride away). If you intend to camp that weekend could you cut'n'paste your name to the list I'm starting below. :

Camping - The Duke William Pub, Matlock DE4 3BZ
Friday 14 and/or Saturday 15 August 2009

Boyd     Friday & Saturday

* VERY IMPORTANT This is not an official TC event, and the above venue and dates are only a suggestion of what you may, or may not, like to do that weekend. Using this venue, how your get to/from it, and what you do whilst there, are totally your individual responsibility. Adding your name to this list indicates that you are aware of this.

I'll have to leave this decision to nearer the time. That weekend is slap bang in the middle of my annual leave, a time usually spent re-aquainting myself with the female and two rather short males that seem to occupy the large dwelling attached to my shed.

I think I'll be ok as far as the stumpy males is concerned, but the female showed a distinct look of displeasure on my initial proposal (or it could have been wind :-\).

Heyho!

Just to check... When females tell you they won't speak to you for a month, is that a good thing or a bad thing?? They make it sound like a threat, But I can't find the down side!

Boyd,

Thanks for the kind offer, I'd like to take you up on it unless any of the South Wales boys wish to do it(if it makes things easier)

Unable to make the weekend, not that I could carry it on the bike anyhow.

I'll speak to John and let him know what I propose to do and if he's ok with that I'll give you my contact details.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks mate, would love to but I'm trying to be good and save money and reduce the amount of kit we need to move when the time comes  ::) I hope we get our first choice because our second will deprive me of the size of workshop I have become used to!  :'(

The don't remember any reference to the issue you elude to. Are you able to forward me a copy or has it already been burnt. I hope this is not a disturbing escalation of your Stalinist style of leadership, ie. presentation and removal of facts/evidence before anyone can deny or refute them? If I hear the front door being kicked in at around 04:00am tomorrow I know what to expect. And, "No!", it won't be the Spanish Inquisition as nobody expects them!

Re. Deleting of posts

Just to clarify my actions, in the face of another shitstorm, nothing was intended as a personal slight or judgement of intent. I was probably over-sensitive to one statement and this was entirely due to the context of the thread it was posted in. The other posts were only pulled because they referenced the original comment.

If the posts had contained aything other than quips and one-liners then I would, of course, have consulted each person to give them the chance to edit (or not) as they saw fit.

My only consideration was to avoid giving offence, but in true Carrick fashion I seem to have annoyed four for the sake of one.

If it's any consolation I consulted Mrs Onepot on the matter before deleting the posts and she agreed with me. And trust me that doesn't happen often at home  ::)
