I have two 'spare' XBRs in my garage. One has a blown-up motor but a nice rolling chassis, the other a horrible chassis but a running motor.
I need to raise some cash so I thought I'd combine the two to make one good bike that I could sell. I first turned my attention to the good engine. I decided to strip the donor bike down to small pieces for the simple reasons that I can add the bits to my spares stockpile and I need the room in my garage.
Getting the engine out was the usual XBR tussle, but it's amazing how much easier it is when you don't mind scratching the frame ;) When I tried to remove the bolts for the plate that holds the oil lines into the engine I snapped both of them. I wasn't being heavy-handed, they had both corroded.
So, now that the engine is out I have to get it off to the engineers to get the bolts drilled out and the threads reclaimed or helicoiled.
Next step is to finish stripping down the bike, then I can drag out the good chassis and remove its engine.

I forgot to mention that the forks from the donor bike have gone over to my GB500 to replace the leading links fitted when it had a chair attached.
I took the time to polish the stanchions and I was pleased at how well they came up. It's too much to ask me to look after a polished finish, but as that bike will also be for sale it will be up to someone else to apply the Autosol
