Title: MZ Tour, Throttle cables routing???????????????
Post by: themoudie on February 15, 2009, 08:23:41 PM
I'm getting vexed with this beastie :(

I can't get a smooth, snap shut on the throttle and suspect the throttle cable run to be the problem. It would appear that the cables come over the bracing tube beneath the petrol tank, which renders them liable to nipping from the weight of the tank once it is in position. The use of the spring sheath tends to support this.

Please could someone confirm or refute my suspicion? Has anybody routed them under the brace, or only one of the two and if so which one.

Lots of little niggles, such as lost bolts, washers, rubber grommets etc at present so I'm going forward two then reversing four!!!!!

Any wheezes with the airbox/filter or leave standard?

Thank you for your time to read this.

Bill.

Bill, I seem to remember the routing being a bit tight, but havent had any problems. Its not the throttle tube/grip tight on the bar is it ?.
As for the airbox, I gave up trying to get it to fit, odd design. The tank cross-brace keeps it pretty much in the right position.

Hiya Bill,

My throttle (2 cables, running over the spar) have always worked ok once adjusted.  Maybe it is too heavy to "snap" shut tho??  Much as I prefer this, I dont think mine does...  Tho if your SRX does, I am certain the MZ can be made to do same.  Incidently- 1 cable or 2 on your SRX?  It was always one on mine, with no probs.

Does your tank sit right?  Rubber at the front, bracket at the back?

I junked the airbox and put 2 conical filters on insted.  Mostly aesthetic, to free up a bit of space where there was once black plastic!  However, it runs much better (and now doesn't fill up with rainwater!).  Dnojetted and Renegade pipe, there are pics about, so drop me a line for more info.

Cheers for now pal,

a

SteveH and Andy230,

Thank you both for the info.

Throttle tube nice and free on the bar and all the 'rubbers' in position, I suspect the previous owner 'dumped' the tank on without a wee check around. I'll go canny when I put together tonight, if I get time! All the salt on the run down sarf has seized the caliper on the offside front of the wee Micra, so I'm off to strip that out by candlelight first. ???

Have thought about the alternative filters, but the airbox at present seems fine and the filter inside is almost new. More than enough projects to keep me occupied.

All the best, Bill.
