My xbr wheels are comstars. I don't like them but until I find some spoked wheels that fit, I'll have to make do.
Is it worth me spraying the rear brake drum/hub and transfering it across (when I find my spoked wheels) or should I just fit "as is"?
Which spoked wheels fit the xbr? And is swapping the hub a reallistic proposition?
And does anyone actually like comstars?!!

I went to the blasters yesterday, and it looks as though if I slacken the hubs within the wheels (I cant remove them completely because of the rivits on the rim) he should be able to clean a bit, spin it round, clean another bit etc.
Question is, if its not in the direct blast of the blasting material, will the rest of the rim be ok???

Strangely enough, they've grown on me. I like the look of them and given the abuse that my sidecar outfit gives my wheels I can say that they are astoundingly strong.

Well I think due to cost I'm going to stick em back on- thats why I wanna see if I can tart them up a bit...

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the comstars can't be spoked.... but as I'm a cuple of thousand miles (roughly) fro home I can't actually wander out into the back yard to check the validity of that statement!! :o
The XBR had a spoked wheel option (the SJ model) but the drums seem even more prone to warping than the comstars so personally I'd look for a disc wheel that "fit's in the hole" and graft in a second hand caliper /master cylinder setup... then tell the rest of us what fit's ;-))
Good luck either way!!

I actually like the style of comstar wheel fitted to the XBR,very distinctive if nothing else. There is a way to convert comstars into spoke wheels:
First ignore all Honda tell you and drill out the rivets and dismantle the comstar.

Then make or get made some rings to bolt onto the hub with holes drilled for the spokes.

The final product.

Not tried it myself ,found the idea on another Honda forum.

Very neat. Someone else had mentioned this way of fitting spokes and until I saw these photos I'd assumed that it was a clunky-looking solution. But, as usual, I was wrong, that looks very neat indeed.
Any idea on the thickness of the aluminium rings? I'm guessing over 5mm.
Cheers
