Title: Tauerntreffen film
Post by: guest7 on January 28, 2009, 10:51:24 PM
Somebody has got their film of the event on YouTube already, See HERE (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxii86kuZL8)

The yellow outfit is the one that towed me up to the site. In the photo section at the end you can see me preparing to fit the tow rope. You can also see a picture of Jethro's outfit.

Somebody

That’s Martin Franitza, Chief Editor of the biggest Sidecar-Magazine in Europe, maybe all over the world. He will be going on a sidecar-trip to Moermansk on the 19th of February together with Fritz and both their wives.

He also made this movie of the last year’s Tauerntreffen (2008):

I’v got the complete DVD and, apart from the interviews, it’s a great movie.

SNOW CHAINS????!!!!,    PAH!!!!  NO CHAINS ;D ;D :P :-*

Teasing Mode on :P:

As photographer of this specific pic, I remember this slightly panicing voice, only twenty feet downwards the mountain, shouting the from now on legendary words: Richard, Richard, wait, I’m stuck……so I had to walk back and push this guy out of the snow. And it was not Jethro.

Teasing Mode off  8)

BTW, Can anybody imagine to ride all the way up from Trieben with snowchains in deep snow.

Well that's what i get for being a courteous rider and letting cars go past up hill,i could have got off myself

and i take solace that it wasn't mud i was stuck in and needed several members of a rally to rescue me and my two wheel drive go anywhere outfit :P :P :P :-* :D :D :D

At the TT  I also got stuck early Saturday morning, just before the ride-out on my way up to the hut. When I got off the bike I was standing up to my knees in the snow. The road suddenly was a bit narrower as I could remember……. ::)

Three years ago I got stuck at the ride-out too. Took me a minute to get going again.
I don’t mind getting stuck. It just means conditions are too hard.  :o

There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you park the bike in some ludicrous position with little obvious sign of getting it out.

I remember having an 'off' on my DR350 on the Claerwen dam trail in mid Wales. I had ploughed into a trough which looked to be full of water (as indeed the previous four troughs had been), but it was full of gelatinous mud. After picking myself up and walking back to the bike I realised that I had a 450lb motorcycle stuck fast, up to its sidepanels, in gloop. That's when the exhiliration of off-roading quickly dissipates.

On another occasion I had to kick a KMX125 on its side down a 20-metre shale slope because I'd crashed it on the way up and it was too steep to remount and ride back down.

One of my mates once parked his KTM250 between two trees (at speed) because he hadn't realised that his handlebars were an inch wider than the gap. That took ages to get out.

Isn't it a hallmark of biking, that glorious feeling of invincibility as we ride straight into some form of disaster?

In those days, of course, I bounced. These days the bike would be a secondary consideration, the phone call to the hospital being the first.

In the dim and distant past , whilst out and about with the T.A in the Sennybridge area , I was doing a 'recce' on an Armstrong 500 . On sighting a suitable route ,I trundled along a badly rutted track . From the depth of the ruts , it had last been traversed by 4tonners , as the ruts were about 18inches deep ,or thereabouts . Now then , I came to a flooded bit , into which said ruts led . No room either side . Convoy now catching up , so press on .Entered the flooded bit , water just over the footrests , not too bad .At this point , CAK , god of all things mechanically flawed , looked down from his pad on Mount Olympus . An invisible bolt of chaos enveloped me and the trusty Armstrong as we tramped on .Unbeknown to me , said 4tonners had deviated across and away from the rutted track and the front wheel of the bike suddenly began to follow this new track . Suddenly ,myself and the bike dropped about three foot and I just had time to abandon ship as the water came up over the tank . As I surveyed the Armstrong , still upright , all I could see was the handle bars and mirrors above the large pool . With the help of some chums , the bike was hauled out and the convoy moved off leaving me to sort the bike out . Airbox emptied , plug out ,carb striped and bike reassembled after much kicking over with plug out , and the thing fired up second or third kick and ran without incident for the rest of the weekend .
Perhaps I should buy one myself ?
