Title: Tauerntreffen route and dates
Post by: guest7 on December 07, 2008, 11:30:54 AM
Me, Simon, Gareth and Liz have booked our ferry and our plans are now in place.

Three of us will be staying in a B&B* in Dover on the 20th January, then getting up early to catch the 6.45 ferry to Calais (return cost, £26.50!). Simon will meet us there. Our route from Calais will take us North East into Belguim then across to Germany where we will pick up the A3, the road that we will follow for virtually the entire trip.

The plan for the first day (Wed. 21st) is to ride 442 miles to Wurzburg where we plan to stay at a cheap Etap hotel. If we share rooms then the cost won't be extortionate (E20 each?)

On the second day we will aim to get close to the rallysite in Austria and spend another night in a hotel. On the Friday morning we will ride to the site and attempt to ride up a snow-covered hill that leads to the camping area.

One of our aims is to avoid doing a huge amount of night riding and to take it easy getting there.

We will spend two nights at the rally.

On the Sunday we will aim to rack up quite a high mileage to get us close enough to Calais so that we can get there in time for an early evening ferry on the Monday.

That's the plan... now all I have to do is sort out a bike and raise some cash  ::)

* Gareth is trying to get us a cheap bed-only price at the B&B in Dover, he paid £15 last time!

GC have you considered stopping in a youth hostel?? Very cheap and very nice too. I know at your age you'll be pushing the trade description boundaries but suck your bellies in and have a close shave and I reckon you could fool 'em ;D

It's fun to stay at the YMCA (so they say) Camping without the camping  :o
