Title: Annual Rally 2009?
Post by: sjak on November 22, 2008, 07:00:06 PM
Hello Thumpers,

can you  tell me about the Annual Rally 2009? Is there a data and/or place known?
I'd like to promote the Rally to the Dutch (& Belgian & German) this year!

The Dutch Monoconnection Meeting probably will be at the FIRST weekend of September at a new place, not to far away from Assen/WK Superbike on Sunday(about 70 km) ;) ;).

Aren't the Irish lads sorting something out for next year?? ???

I would certainly like to visit Northern Ireland but not sure if many would make it if it was the venue for the Annual Rally. I might be wrong? What about Crewkerne? And back to around the 21/22 July as my timing this year was a bit off!

Actually Crewkerne is a cracking idea. Does that mad Belgian still own the pub I wonder?

Added to the nice rough field opposite for camping is those neat little motel rooms he has (Steve knows them better than most).

Having said that, I thought Baskerville Hall was a lovely venue.

It appears that he does , Still advertising in the VMCC  journal .

I'd do a run to the emerald isle .

Ireland's fine (North or South), but wouldn't that mean two sets of ferry costs for the continental attendees?

(I've just realised - as well as ferry costs for the rest of us... :o)

I don't remember them mentioning it at Dent... but they did ply me with tons of beer so that's hardly conclusive  ::)

Speaking as a newbie on the south coast, Crewkerne sounds good. Then I could maybe get to meet some of the interesting and knowledgeable chaps who write such - er - amusing stuff...

Yes, Crewkerne sounds like a good plan. Can I be trusted to start negotiations with the pub or would someone else like to do it?

It fits well with our intention to move the rally over the years so that people from the further flung corners of the isle can get a chance to get there easily.

A southern (I mean really south) rally is overdue.

Cheers

Ah, but can you guarantee the cracking weather we had at Crewkerne last time? Seriously though, I'd love a return to Crewkie. Colin Hilliard is just up the road and knows Anton well. Perhaps he can be persuaded to organise something. Having that room set aside for showers/etc was a real gem of an idea. And you can have another weekend of abusing H-D owners again, eh GC?

Crewkerne sound good to me ;D GC, if you're sorting things out, what do you think to RobG's suggestion (in another thread) of a treasure hunt?? Surely we have enough local members in that neck of the woods to pick out a dozen venues for us to track down. Sounds like a great larf, and possibly safer (for the H&S brigade) than a mass rideout. No GPS allowed though ;) (yes, I'm looking at you Mr Morgan!)
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2009?

Sounds good to me, it will fragment the group, which will suit some but not others. However, that and a fixed run (to that tank museum?) will probably be enough to keep everyone happy.

I think I'll let someone else put on the entertainment! Fancy a run to Sammy Miller museum, how far away is that?
.................and will the marquee be required, if so I need to start planning now.
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2009?
Post by: Bill Rutter on November 30, 2008, 06:39:46 PM
Sammy Miller's is 68.53 miles from Crewkerne  :P (Multimap is your friend) I went there a couple of years ago and it is a nice day out with a decent enough cafe so would make for a good ride out. I would like another go at Bovington Tank Museum myself as we didn't quite make that the last time.
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2009?
Post by: robG on November 30, 2008, 07:36:49 PM
Should we not get the reply from the pub and then contact the museum as I know they have a number of events through the year and we should not clash with one of these through courtesy . We can the organise a treasure hunt to take in points of interest en route with a 'prize ' for most points visited.

We still need dates etc and this may depend on the above etc , and in turn also give some direction to Steve D's plans for the marquee as a result .

Waiting on you GC .

The Stagecoach Inn is free on the weekends of either 18th-19th or 25th-26th of
July. We will have to send a deposit and an idea of how many chalets will be needed (at the very least we will book one and leave it empty so that everyone can use the washing and toilet facilities).

So... any thoughts on dates? I'm guessing the schools break-up on the 24th - can anyone confirm this?

GC
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2009?
Post by: Bill Rutter on December 01, 2008, 07:09:41 PM
GC, I've had a quick look around various County Education websites and it would seem that, in England and Wales at least, the schools break-up around 23rd-24th July next year. It would seem that Scotland do things slightly differently and break-up a fortnight or so earlier.
Hope this helps.

Anyone fancy a room for that weekend?

Anton (the landlord) says:

"A double room or twin room is £58.00 per
night a single is £38.00.  We also do triple tooms which is £73.00.
This includes breakfast."

Let me know if you want a room. I will see if he is agreeable to people making their own arrangments, but for now he has asked for us to provide an idea of numbers booking rooms.

Yes, rough camping in the field directly opposite the pub. He has to ask the farmer, but apparently he rarely objects as long as we make a donation*

GC

* a donation doesn't include a gallon of engine oil mixed with petrol Steve  ;)
(Steve's DR managed to fill its engine with petrol last time we were there, only cured by draining the whole lot)

Rough camping ?

That all sounds a bit much . I assume it's on common ground ?
I'm with Steve D . The triple room seems a bit strange.{Although I'm confused about exiting ? ???} This and the rough camping . What sort of run is this turning into ?  :o :o
Next you'll be telling us to turn up wearing leather clothes . I'm not sure this is quite what I thought. ::)

Oh here we go...  ;)

I described it as rough because it's not actually a campsite, just a bare field with no facilities.

It's a funny spot, yes there are houses over the road, but fields on the other side.

Well if its any consolation the grass was long but what was worse was that the farmer had left his cows in there and they (the cows) had not been informed that we would be putting up our tents there and they (the cows) had obviously been munching lots and lots of that lovely green grass! :-X

Please Jethro, those are the sort of images that scar people for life, leaving them so traumatised that they are no longer able to go out of the house for fear of encountering a moustached man with a yorkshire accent. We must be sensitive to the fact that not everyone has an empty bucket by their computer :P

Can we make this the "theme" for the Dragon - Perverted Stuff for Jethro? I'm only mentioning this as our store cupboard at work has lots of interesting paraphernalia that could be put to all sorts of base uses.

Just a thought (and one that probably says more about me than it does about the Bearded One).

We would love to come to your Rally!
Could you consider organizing it in June because July is reserved for  family or bank holiday.

The place looks nice...high grass, we will bring along our Dutch cow  8)

I'll open up the issue in a new thread and ask if a June date clashes with anything important.
