Title: Still no dragon details
Post by: guest7 on October 09, 2008, 07:18:52 PM
No ticket details on the website yet.

Anyone had any thoughts about what to do on the Friday before the Dragon?

Shall I block book Petes' Eats again. I really like it there!
(But then I like it anywhere!)

Hey,
I hadn't used the 'move' button before... oh no I'm feeling dizzy now...

I'm up for Pete's Eats, it's a great place to stop over. I'll ask my brother and Liz if they want to tag along again. If you're happy booking it Steve then that would be great. Mind you, if people want a change then we could do something else. Thoughts?

Myself,Viv and Jethro have spoken about this about a month ago,
we were talking about the amount of money spent during a trip to the dragon :(,
the conclusion was we all agreed to camp on the Friday night,
at this point the place to camp is undecided,

Steffan,an open fire sounds like a cracking idea mate,a very social way to camp,i could rustle up  some chili prawns and other food like substances,
so I'm in agreement with you and Richard,Friday night under the stars(if they can be seen)

what do think Jethro.

The place I have in mind is under Cader Idris, by a river and has virtually no facilities. There is a shower etc half a click away but the proprietor turns them off in the winter, so it is "back to nature". It is at the end of a very small made road which snakes its way along the river into the foothills. It is moss covered even in the summer - February may not be elefantine but it may well be interesting.
There is a pub but it is a pretty decent walk away - Richard do you remember how far to the pub?

Sounds very pleasant to me  ;D

Having Sh1t loads of trouble with the outfit at the moment.....just discovered the top shock mount on the chassis is rotten !!!! >:(

So not a very Happy Bunny !

But we have the Technology....a bit of fabrication and welding required.

Memory says about 1 1/2 miles off road walking, so well within range.  Good pub that I can't remember the name of but friendly with a real fire and choice of ales.  Grub was good too.

Alternatively lots of mulled wine works well.  I remember having a fire there last time.  Bloody lovely spot, river, mountain, sheltered.  Only a few miles outside Dolgellau.  Last mile would be challenging in ice or snow but then it always is.

At least one sidecar would be good, preferably one with a wooden body in case we run out of fuel..............................................................................(joke).

I believe the owner would prefer us to use the lower field by the river in the winter to preserve the grazing in the upper.

I,m up for that, sounds good to me and I,ve got a spare lifejacket!. Will need details of Lat, Long to find exact spot or a meet up point somewhere near. Just an idea if we all put a bit of dosh in together could the farmer be persuaded to get some firewood and leave it up there?

No prizes for guessing who has sat-nav ;D Have you met a B-grade actor recently for whom you are developing warm feelings?

I don't bloody know, do I? I just know how to get there. As for the wood suggestion I will ask when I am next up there but I somehow have my doubts.  ::) Strikes me as a bit of no fuss cash for a field that wouldn't feed the sheep - but I can ask... ???

Was that a dig at me!!!!!! Not to worry, but I can still put lat / long onto a map to get an idea of where to go and I still enjoy getting lost and then finding my way back on track. PS the Tom Tom mount as standard is absolutely crap and I do not use it at the moment, in fact when I do need one I use my van Garmin and just stick it onto the rev counter glass! Who needs a rev counter on a single? It worked OK on the trip to Holland apart from when it got a bit wet or didn't recognise that there is now a blooming great big dam at the top of the country! But then that's another story!
Still I'm up for the wild camping thing.

I'll have a look at my map and give a Grid Ref sometime soon, probably this week.  We've got until February remember...............

Directions will be available well in advance.

Having followed steve through Buxton where I followed the BIG GREEN ROAD SIGNS as he went off down some side road the expression "sat nav blindness" comes to mind. I had to wait on the outskirts of buxton until he arrived. I am not convinced about steve and sat navs make for a good combination.
Perhaps his is automatically set for water features etc

Hmm having followed Steve into a rainstorm in Holland I have to agree. Each time he turned I thought this cant be the way, in the end I couldnt find were we where on the map, this was because whilst I expected us to be in the North East, Steves Sat Nav had taken us South East. We got very wet.
That said, having previously been admantly anti Sat Nav, I now think they are useful, but need to be used cautiously.

Camping on the Friday with an open fire sounds good to me!

It has the added advantage that I won't be able to spend any money in the outdoor shops in Llanberis or Betws Y Coed!

How far south is this place? I assume roughly between Lampeter and Anglesey?

I'm up for it, just need to do the route planning.

A few short miles outside Dolgellau, very close to Cader Idris.

Thank you, that's close enough to work out a rough plan (is there any other sort?)  ;D

I'd love to do this, but I'm guessing it could be awkward given the circumstances.

Will I be welcome?

Putting my cheque in the post in about five minutes from now  :)

Just had a peep through old diaries and found this:-

Graham R Bradshaw
Hillberry
25 Maelgwyn Drive
Deganwy
Conwy
LL31 9UY

£15 per person + 2 self stamped addressed envelopes, cheques made out to "Conwy Motorcycle Club Ltd"

Note to Graham, can you confirm that these details are correct and that we can re-use them this year?

There is an update on the Conwy clubs website saying that cheques recieved before the end of Nov have been banked and tickets will be posted on 12 December. This is apparantly due to a number of bouncing cheques.
