Title: Amaly retentive
Post by: guest27 on October 14, 2006, 12:23:58 PM
Hi All

Whilst work on the TZRotax has stopped for child rearing and wood cutting duties, the brain is still mulling over the jobs to be done.  As a std Jawa lump it was fitted wit a 34mm Amal MK2.  The suggestions I have seen is to put on a 40mm Amal or 42mm Delorto.  I have a 40mm Amal sat here full of cack and off a 250 stroker.  Now I can strip out the emulsifier tube from the 34mm and replace the 2-stroke tube in the 40mm, but what about jets?  Would I be right in thinking that a good starting place would be the pilot, needle jet and needle from the 34mm and play suck it and see on the main?  Or do I need to try and find some more info on the 40mm Amal fitted to a rotax? (SOHC)  Currently I have not looked at putting a big bore on it, but I will make the compression more reasonable and put in a more racy cam when she is pulled apart - current spec is pretty much the lowest spec that Rotax made.

Any thoughts?

A Delorto pumper is the animal of choice !

The Armstrong crowd go for those out of choice.Replacing the original Amal.
And the MZ 500 came with one as standard and worked really well.

Ahh yes - but I do not have one of those - I do have a 40mm Amal and being as we are running this project on HM Govt support I have to run with what I have to begin with.  I do not have an exhaust and I need a load of welding done on the frame so I think the expenditure will have to be there first.  And then one day maybe the Amal will find its way on to the Maico 440 engine I have, just when I decide / find a suitable frame.. - but that will have to be after all the other projects.  Maybe it needs a partner and would go OK on the T500 but that may be too big.  SO hints and tips on setting up the Mala for the Rotax would be good - or a cheap 40 - 42mm Dellorto...
