Title: XBR Swingarm bush removal

On a similar vien to my earlier question, not having the Honda tool (who has other than a Honda dealer?) how on earth are you supposed to get the first swing arm bush out without butchering it?

I need to fit new bushes after powder coating of the swing arm as one has a deep score mark. I have tried drifting the first one out with a broad bladed screw driver but it does not want to budge. Any suggestions?

I dunno if I'm just ham-fisted but I always destroy them things getting them out. I work on the theory that if I beat the crap out of it long enough it'll fall to bits. Once the first one is out the second one is fairly easy.

I split mine from the swingarm lip after powder coating and then I drifted them out from the opposite end with a short bar. David Silver do them for about 8 quid each. Grease them well when you put them back in!

Hi What type of bush are they Metalistic or a solid bush? Metalistic burn the rubber out first and then remove the outer bush. if its a solid bush and has a ridge inside get a good drift with clean edges and knock from the other side. if it has no lip to hit try to weld an object or a washer inside it and then knock on the washer. Or fold it in from the outside to weaken it.

Something Dave said made me realise that a bit of gentle persuasion via a hacksaw blade (saw in two through horizontal bearing surface) would do the trick, after all I will fit new bushes when the swing arm has been powder coated.

I did think about sourcing a split internally tapered collet and tapered bar (which is what I guess the Honda service tool will look like) but then I realised I was going too far and decided to resort to the old bike fixers mantra 'if you cant do it properly, bodge it'!

Bushes £8.50 each from David Silver. David Silver have revamped their web site and it's much easier to find parts now.

PS - Dave, checked photos today and have not got any showing bar end mirrors. I will take a couple and post as promissed.
