Title: fork air pressure for srx

does anyone know the correct air pressure for the forks on an 87 srx4...or is it better to run forks without adding air pressure ?

Don't bothertrying to pressure them (when you take the pump connector off, you'll lose the pressure anyway? Put too much in (easily done!), & you'll blow the seals (it's a pain in the a**e)

thanks omegaman i they seem to be ok without the air so ill leave them as they are.  By the way does anyone know the correct amount of oil to use per leg....Ive been going with what it says in the srx6 manual 310ml ...does anyone know any different?

As for the air bit, I am agreement with Omegaman, not worth the hassle. However, I know that some people have taken the trouble and set them up. As for the difference ???

You can adjust the air pressure by adjusting the oil level, so long as there is enough as a min and not so much as to cause a hydrolic lock as a max.  This is why some people suggest that you should set the level of the oil - ie mm below the top, rather than the volume, as it balances out the pressure in each leg.

I've found the only successful way to pressurise them is...
1. lift front of bike so front wheel is off the ground (i.e. forks fully extended, with no wieight on them)
2. (having been a racing cyclist in the past, i have a very useful stirup pump with a half decent guage on it) pump up the forks to required pressure .....anything over 12lb will make them solid, as as mentioned in a previous thread....bu55er up the seals.....I use something between 4 and 8 lb
3. As in 1. above, with front of bike supported use use preferred grade of oil (I use 10 or 15)...fill up to 120mm from top of fork leg.....I use a cardboard 'taper'

But....as said before......the difference is pretty marginal....and if you want to keep the pressure pretty constant, you will need to do this once a fortnight probably
