Title: Clip ons
Post by: guest288 on April 24, 2008, 04:07:16 PM
Im a bit confused- I have a set of clip-ons for my xbr and they're either alloy or aluminium? Im halfway through polishing them up and wondering how i protect them from the weather?

difficult one.....they are alloy...(pure aluminium is too soft) .. get them polished up and laquer them...looks good and stays shiny....until the laquer chips...then they progressively get horrible as they tarnish/oxidise in the chips...and it's impossible the polish them up because of the laquer.....so it's just a case of polishing them ocasionally and forget the laquer

Cheers Steve, I thought that might be the case.

Once they're polished and on the bike, obviously they will be harder to keep polished- any recommendations on what gear to use?  Somebody said about ACF50 (?) but i think this is a thin type of oil a bit like WD40.  Will Autosol be any good?

Sounds like I'm doomed for a life of polishing...  ;)
