Title: XBR Rev Counter

The XBR hasn't been used much in the last few weeks but I've been starting it up once a week or so.  Started it today and wonder why it said it was ticking over at over 2000 rpm.    Took it for a spin up the road and while the engine is running and revving perfectly normally,the rev counter tells me I'm doing just under the red line at 60MPH in top !!!!   :o

The rev counter seem to be showing around twice the actual engine speed. As it's electronic, I assume that it picks up a pulse from the HT coil(?) but as the bike is running fine there isn't anything wrong with that. My guess is that the electronic gismo that converts the pulse into needle movement is shot. 

Has anyone else had this?  if so is it fixable or do I need to start searching Ebay for a new rev counter!  ???

Sorry, never heard of this problem before. I'll have a look to see if I have any spare reve counters in the shed

Any idea where the revcounter picks up from?  I've tried to follow the wiring diagram and it seems to go back to the CDI unit so I wonder if it actually picks up from the pulse coil generator?

Yes...Come across it before.
Yes...The rev counter does get its sinal from the cdi.
Yes...I'm afraid your Tacho is proberbly Knackered. :'(

So the answer is YES !     ;D

Hope you can sort something out !   Mind....dont really need a Tacho,it doesnt stop you from using it ! ;)

Standard useless Roger reply.  Lekky tacho's can be repaired - have seen a site on the interweb in the UK doing them, but cannot find it at the mo.  Mind it may cost more than a replacement.

Thanks Jethro & Rog.

In the short term I've disconnected the black/green wire in the back of the tacho which picks up the signal from the CDI - this has at least stopped the needle going mad.

In the longer term I'll have to get hold of another tacho ( GC/ thumperclub/ebay) as I think it may well be cheaper than getting the old one repaired ;D

 dominator revcounter will probably fit and be easier to find/more plentiful.

 i'm sure someone here will know if it works- just an idea.
