Post by: themoudie on June 23, 2023, 09:42:12 PM
Like watching paint dry, but with artistry and skill.  ;D ;D ;D

Love it, Bill

great stuff ... when i was cycle racing (shortly after the cessation of chariot racing on safety grounds) all the best bike frames were lugged and brazed, you couldn't see evidence of the brazing once the frame was painted. frame makers (who weren't allowed to advertise their names on the frame} resorted to signature lug design or particular frame shape ('curly' Hetchins was one famous style where the rear stays were kinked) the intricate work on the frame build was stunning. it's lovely to see these skills are are still there.
thanks for the post Bill

Yep, brilliant skills!

A mate in my cycling club found a Hetchins frame in a skip. It was the same size as a farmers gate though sadly, much too big for either of us, so I sold it on Ebay as he didn't do the Internet. It made £500 straight out of the skip, £250 each!

At one time I owned a Colnago Master Olympique which was a thing of beauty with intricate chromed lugs. I could never decide whether to ride it or just hang it on the wall and look at it!
