... I was idly casting around and came across this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Greeves-Triumph-Scrambler-/204235433696

I've always fancied one but fortunately(?) for my wallet it was already sold. Probably for the best but I will keep my eyes open. That one went for a very reasonable price.

Very nice! I guess hybrids tend to go for less money than 'purebreds' for some reason, Tritons excepted, but I would imagine they are quite often a better bike.
-
They do seem very variable - there's one on ebay as a classified ad for over £5,000 but that's daft. I'm not in a rush but may end up buying the component bike & engine separately. There are people who produce the appropriate engine plates. Or of course, being fickle, may have my attention directed elsewhere. Not a thumper of course so purists look away.....
When I rode in the Midlands Classic Club trials someone had one and I always liked the look & sound of it. Another bloke actually used an almost standard 3TA and he ran rings round me - but then so did almost everyone.
-
Having missed that, thought I'd cast my net wider. I found this on facebook marketplace - asking £1500 but has been for sale for a while. 2 problems: not road registered (but should not be a problem) and in Belfast so may be tricky to get back here. I know we have some mebers over there - could anyone offer any suggestions re transport?

Obviously this is a scrambler with original Villiers engine but looks like a good basis to plop a 5TA engine in it. These come up in auctions regularly, and engine plates are readily available.
My other thought was this ebay one but it has a lot of things wrong with it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/125759673997
However, it is road registered and is in England (Norfolk).
What does the collective think?

The title of this thread says it to me Ian. It’s reg’d up so no hassle there, yes I’m sure the things that are wrong can be put right by someone of your talents. After all, it’ll be “another project “ 👍
Either way, best of luck whichever one you chose
Cheers, Michael

I'd have thought the best method of Transport would be to hire a van and pop over on the ferry to get it. Even that wouldn't be cheap though as the ferry is over £100 I think, and unless you're prepared to try and get some sleep on the ferry, I'd factor in the cost of an over night stay as well.
-
Yes, transport would be a lot and I'm going off the idea....... I'm not sure I want to commit to what would be a lengthy project. Still keeping my eyes open though.
-
Indecisive? Me? Can't make up my mind. Oh dear, there I've gone & done it and gone for the Belfast Greeves. It will be a long road ahead.....
Agreed on £1350 to account for transport at £300 or so via Shiply. I couldn't have gone and got it myself for that much.
Buy at haste repent at leisure as they don't say. Anybody got a T100 / T90 engine knocking about?
-
Best of luck with it Ian, look forward to seeing your progress with it in the coming weeks/months 👍
Cheers, Michael

Years more likely......

Excellent! I should imagine that you'll be able to get a financial kick-start to the project by selling the Villiers engine too...

Very much looking forward to your forthcoming posts 8)
