As always it is sad to lose one of the old characters. I think he was a little controversial at times, but can't deny the man had talent. I met him once at Cadwell and he seemed alright to me.

Yes, he was a great rider but suffered being a contemporary of the great Mike Hailwood and I think that soured his attitude to some extent especially as Mike was such a warm character.

Read was a RACER and a SHOWMAN, if you aren't top dog, then you are going to be TOP DOG, come hell or high water.

Sad that the man died in penury.  :'(
