Ian,
Good spot that.
I’m going over to take a look at that on Wednesday

Ooo... I was very tempted when I looked at the photo, it’s exactly the same colour and year as the one I bought new waaaaaay back in 1980. Brought back some cracking memories just looking at the photos of it....Oh them were’t daze 😉👍.
Cheers, Michael

The Pugh auctions always have some interesting stuff and well worth keeping an eye open.

I took a look at the Cb250rs today.
6 owners from new and 27k on the clock.
It looked nice and genuine with original paintwork (I believe),
The engine had been cleaned up and was nicely presented.
Wheels looked original and in good order.
The main issue was very noticeable play in the rear sprocket, suggesting a possible Cush bush problem.
It will be auctioned on Saturday and it will be interesting to see the hammer price
-
Yes indeed it would Kevberlin, if you find out please will you let me know what it does sell for.
Cheers, Michael 👍

Of course Michael.
If there’s interest I am guessing something like £1800 hammer price, but, of course, I could be well off target. It’s a very nice bike.

Wear on the rear sprocket / cush drive bushes is very common on these models. You can get the bushes on the after market but they are not cheap. The RSD models have the more conventional rubber types. Most of you already know it's in the nature of the single cylinder power pulses which exacerbate the wear. £1800 would I guess be about right IMHO.
-
£1800? Really? Seems v high, even though it is pretty.
-
Prices seem to be on the rise-now they are getting over 40. (tax and MOT exempt).
-
So the Honda made £1600 hammer price…….with £195 fees to add to that.
Auctioneer was surprised it went for that price but it seems there were only 2 bidding for it.
Auctioneer start price was £2000, but first bid was £1000
-
Well if I was selling I'd be happy enough with that price.............not sure about buying though. Paid about £30 (yes thirty) for my first RS which was more or less complete and a runner requiring only a pair of grab rails and little work IIRC and NOT that long ago!
-
£30 quid😲😲.....bargain of the century that one Martin. Bet you wish (I know I do🤦???) that you could still buy one for that kind of money now.
-
Yes Michael I certainly do! Sometimes you can be very lucky! IIRC it was advertised in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics (not Ebay of course) with no price. I phoned the seller straightaway and talked to him at length and at no time did he mention a price. It was high miles but ran fine .In the end I asked him how much he wanted and he said £30 or it could have been £35-no more. Needless to say I was round there like a shot. I had to pay someone I know his petrol to run me over to Rugby in his tranny which is about 50 miles but yes-a result. This was admittedly when they were just one of many big selling UJM's -just like the Superdream and many others. I did once turn down a ratty CB750 K2 for a few hundred pounds-look at the price of them now!

Yes I think we’ve all had one two like that Martin. The ones that got away 🤦???🤦???
-
Indeed! Best other ones that didn't get away were the KH250's and 400s I could buy in pieces and mostly complete but with a V5 for £50- £80.Circa 1995 / 1996.
-
Interestingly, the suction turned up a KH 250 that had been stored for a while but needed sorting out. It made £3500. Also a very nice 13000 mile KH400 that made over £7000.

That's just crazy!
-
Not if you’re the seller Martin . Kerching 😉💶💶
-
So this is the bike sold for a net @£1800 at Pugh auctions, now up at £2250 on eBay.

That’s business I guess.

Yes, typical. I had my eye on a Scott in an auction a couple of years ago. Hammer price: around £5,000. It appeared a few weeks later on a dealer's website at £10,000 looking exactly the same.
It's funny, my wife fulminates at the auction commission and calls it barefaced robbery, but doesn't seem to object to profiteering by dealers. Probably because usually yo don't know what they paid.
-
I agree with your wife Ian.
The local bric-a-brac house clearance sale up here now charges 24% if you bid in the saleroom or leave an absentee bid online! :o
Fees apply to the hammer price:
Room and Absentee Bids:
24% inc VAT*
Online and Autobid:
27.6% inc VAT*
*These fees include buyers premiums and internet surcharges.
This is on top of the Commission being taken from the vendor, as set out below that doesn't include VAT! :o
Commission Rates – Per Lot – Items up to £1000.00 – 20%
Lots over £1000.00, 20% of first £1000.00 then 10% thereafter
Minimum Charge per lot – £2.50
ALL CHARGES SUBJECT TO VAT
Needless to say the "recreational delights" of attending a good household clearance auction are now greatly diminished and often inhabited by the mercenary like of a certain D. Pritchard and his rag trade entourage! :-X
Like the rug and hope that you have been able to get out on the 250, if nothing else.
My regards, Bill
