i don't have the ignition switch so not able to get a key number. i would like to remove the filler so that i can get a key made, but, as it's locked , the simple action of removing the allen bolts doesn't free up the cap, as the latch is still engaged with the underside of the opening. frustrated of norfolk ....

Hi Steve
Bit of a long shot, but me and my son have been teaching ourselves lockpicking. It isn't too difficult and picks can be bought cheaply from ebay. Might be an option?

Just one question.........WHY? 🤔
Should your local neighbourhood be worried about thier doors🚪🤣
-
ok, well, not an immediate problem now as i have sold the rolling chassis with the tank on, but lock picking could be an option. thanks for the idea.

Cheap!
Good health, Bill

Ha ha, no they shouldn't be worried. We just like to set ourselves little shared challenges and this one came up because of an episode of Sherlock I think.

Have you come across 'The Lock Picking Lawyer' on Youtube? You might find it interesting.

Hi Steve
Yes him and Bosnia Bill are great favourites of ours. I have to admit that David, my son, is far better than me but I am getting there. Once the basic skill of not over-tensioning the setting tool is mastered it just comes down to being patient and sensitive in order to do a basic pick. I can't imagine most fuel cap locks would be too sophisticated so wouldn't have security pins etc so should be fairly easy.
Hmm now I am wondering about the old CBF500 cap I have in the garage. Hooray a task for tomorrow, I will report back on progress.

OK, managed to remove fuel filler, even though it was locked.... by gently prising it up at the back with a wide blade screwdriver and some felt to protect the tank. came out with a pop.
sure enough it was pretty well seized up, so stripped, cleaned & lubricated. still none of the keys i have would work, so today i took it to my local (highly praised) locksmith, yup, he could do it, £25 with 2 keys ... ready for me monday. midday i get a call, lock is ready !!! but with only 1 key, as he had run out of blanks .... £15 .... now there's a result.

;D The "broad bladed scewdriver"! That'll be a jemmy then? ;)
Sorry, Steve, couldn't resist! I have a similar gem of a locksmith up here, old school trained and despairing of the "throw away" door and window furniture of today.
Plum porter was tasty, I'm working my way through a mixed case!
K2 off to Durham today and the Duke, finally, starting to carburate half decently! :) However, urban crawls and traffic light stops are not appreciated and can result in a cough and splutter! :-[ Dismount, fold up footrest and brake lever, kickstart, unfold controls and then "make progress" before the sodding lights change back to red! ::)
Yew keep a troshin bor, good health, Bill

Aye Steve,
Cheap head these days, so anything over 5% takes a while and preferably, with good food! ;D Those days of Guinness and whisky chasers are past. :)
Off for a canter on the Duke, with Kat on the Bros up through the Glens.
Good health, Bill
