Hello Thumpeteers
Just watched a Youtube video on the MASH X Ride 650 and I am in love. Absolute classic thumper, excellent review (sorry don't know how to post links) and £5199. I want one.

Yes very XT 500 and I think that is why I like it so much.

£5100
At the risk of ruining the industry by discouraging new buyers, 5 grand buys a LOT of used thumper m:
-Honda Domi, XBR500, and SRX
- KTM (various) plus Honda Vigor (for reliability)
- nice Goldie copy
- XR400 plus £2-3K for summat comfy
-SR500 all sorted plus MuZ Bagheera
Other options Are possible but I’m very, very, drunk
-
OOOO you tempter you! I don't have £5200 anyway but if I did then I would have to give your list some serious thought. I think I am going to pursue another thumper soon, albeit maybe a 250 as I really miss the single cylinder thing. I think if money were no object I would seek out one of the rare Harris Matchless G80 500s with electric start.
My other all time favourite is the SLR 650 or XBR 500 Honda. I would have to have a 'bar conversion on the XBR though.
Lovely thinking material on a rainy day.

There’s one for sale Ian in car and classics for £2000. Low mileage too, think it was part of the NMM “stock” ....
-
I might be wrong but I think it is an auction, that will be a guide price, good luck and well done if you can get it for that..
-
Flippin' 'eck is this some kind of Dickensian torment I'm being put through with all you tempters? If I could afford it I would be bidding on that.

Talking of tempters, there are a few 400 Suzuki Tempters about, I like them.....

Tidy looking machines, pity they never officially imported them into UK
-
Nice looking bike although looking at the engine the though of plenty more spare parts keeps ringing in my head for us RFVC owners :)
-
Here's the Fantic Caballero 500 S rambler Deluxe for comparison?
-
Very nice indeed. There are some lovely thumpers emerging in this class of bike. Maybe people are wanting something simpler and more basic feeling. I hope the trend continues.

I still like the RE trials 500, as long as you don't intend carrying a pillion,

Yes I was thinking pretty much the same thing Ian a few weeks ago. Definitely seems to be more “traditional, basic” middleweight machines cropping up.
Cheers, Michael

I think we could be seeing a trend emerge Michael as yesterday I was at a local layby burger van where many bikes gather (being sensible and distanced etc) and the most of them were 500s or thereabouts, an ER5, my CBF, a Virago, a Versys 300 etc. I know this might be seen as the 'winter hack' collection but I got chatting to a chap who pulled in on a BMW RnineT Pure and he had sold his 1200GS to buy it as he wanted something smaller, simpler and more basic. It would be lovely to see the big manufacturers follow the trend and not just leave it to the small alternatives.

Just re-reading this thread today, and thinking “this bloke is a miserable soandso”.
Then realised it was me when drunk! I shall think about whether there is a lesson to be learned there...

In case it's of interest there's a review of the Mash 650 X-Ride in this weeks (Jan 6th) Motor Cycle News. Also quite a good write up on the late Peter Williams. I know that it's not everybody's cup of tea but not bad this week. And John McGuinness now an MBE!
Regards
Tony

Hiya Tony. Thanks for the tip, I get MCN on-line but tbh don't very often look at it. Great news about McPint!
