Saw my first CCM spitfire today...
It went past me twice, sounded loveley, shame they are way too expensive, looked great and sounded nice, but not as nice sound as an Enfield.
-
Got mine on order mr Spooky, should be getting it early November. Chopped my v7 guzzi and my ktm390 duke in for the “Foggy” limited flat tracker edition. Pretty excited about getting it I gotta say.
Cheers, Michael
-
Great...who's engine do they use ?
-

This looks a ripper and it's in Kirby Stephen! ;D

Enjoy the 'Spitfire'! ;D
Good health, Bill

Ah but Bill, I’ve still got the xbr650 tracker on the bench AND the cb250rs/xbr500 engined hillclimber project “under” the bench still to build/finish. I’d just got to stage where I wasn’t going in the garage and wanting to swing a leg over the guzzi. Just didn’t gel with it at all and the ktm390 was just a tad under powered for me so I thought, sod it im not getting any younger. I’m going to get something that when I open the garage door the bike screams at me “come on let’s go for a ride” and the ccm flat tracker certainly fits that bill, plus it’s a bit different, don’t see many flying around. (See what I did there 😁) .. Mr Spooky, they use the husqvarna engine. Cheers, Michael
-
Is the husky motor of Shinray origin then ?
-
Not to sure to be honest, I know husqvarna are now owned by ktm but beyond that I don’t know. Wouldn’t surprise me if it (the engine) was built over in China. What isn’t nowadays 😡

Lovely bike at an equally attractive price!
Good luck with the CCM Michael. Given your reaction to your recent bikes, I think you've got this one spot on. 👌😎
-
Good luck with the CCM Michael. The RS special looks very nice but for me would need a more powerful engine with that suspension set up which I'm sure could easily handle it.

Yes I thought exactly the same thing Martin, still a nice looking bike mind. I’ll keep you posted with the spitfire 🤞cheers, Michael

Good luck with the Spitfire Michael. Henry Cole rode one on one of his Great Motorcycle Rides IIRC, and really liked it. :)
-
Well that's enough to put me off!
But I don't suppose I'm part of the target market anyway.

So much, he bought one. Here's a link to his Spitfire being ridden and reviewed by a prominent YouTube motovlogger;

Still trying to figure out where the luggage and wife go. Maybe for some thats the attraction. Nicely styled but fairly impractical - bit of a Cafe Racer perhaps and none the worse for that.
-
Met a bloke a couple of weeks ago who bought a virtually new one from "a mate" who didn't like it, in fact he said it positively frightened him. He paid about 12k for it. He said it was lovely to ride but "it vibrated a bit" 🤔
-
“It vibrated a bit” it’s a 600cc single what the hell did he think it’d be like, a 400/4?...Yes Richard that kind of is part of the appeal, if I wanted to take my wife and luggage I’d be looking at buying something completely different, not to sure what nowadays tho. Look man, if it’s good enough for good ol Henry Cole man, then it’s good enough for me man. Bet it’s a riot man on the back lane roads man 👍🤣😉
-
I believe the motor is derived from a BMW bit of kit! :-\ MCN review of the CCM Spitfire cafe racer "55bhp, 600cc single-cylinder BMW-designed Husqvarna motor" CCM/spitfire-cafe-racer/2019/review (https://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/ccm/spitfire-cafe-racer/2019/)
As for the review of Henry Cole's bit of kit! >:( >:( :( :( Why oh why, does the 42 carat plonker tester insist on ignoring all the speed limits in built up areas? I know they are tedious, but, if he gets smacked or smacks something he hasn't a leg to stand on! Maybe literally, and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. :-X
So, “It vibrated a bit”! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) Oh! The innocence of the inexperienced, poor luv! ;D ;D ;D ;D A lithe, lusty single any time! ;)
Toodle pip, Bill

Morning Bill, thanks for the “comic” Mcn road test link. The ccm site is claiming 62bhp and 66 Nm of torque @5500 rpm. 142kg dry weight. Either way for the type of riding I do nowadays it should hopefully prove to be enough, especially on the little B and C category roads we generally go on in and around the Yorkshire dales and trough of bowland. Cheers, Michael

So, 450 BMW engine , basically a chinese engine then, 650 was an overgrown 450 built/assembled by Rotax with chinese innards made by Loncin ? still nice though..
-

😾

😾
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍😉
-
what does that little fox face mean ? confused of Durham
-
Pussy?
-
Oh Matt......miaowwwwwww
-
Think it was supposed to mean I was being catty with my remarks in my earlier post.... in my defence. I’d had a very hard/bad day at work. Plus I kind of meant it, it is a 600cc single so Shirley he CANNOT have expected it NOT to vibrate, all part of the experience Shirley. Yeah and maybe Matt was correct in his post, maybe the bloke who moaned about the vibration, is a pussy 🐱
Name withheld to protect the innocent 😉
-
A friend has just taken delivery of her Spitfire bobber, no 187 ...she might let me have a go on it if i havent moved before i see her next, and if i don`t insult it too much for being a Loncin.... half the price would have got her one of those Herald Brute 500`s if they are available yet ? much nicer looking, imo
-
Well I’d be buying your lady friend a box o choccis mr Spooky if it meant you might get a ride (ooo eerr vicar) on the spitfire bobber. As regards the herald they pretty much only do 125’s apart from a 500 single that has yet to be built/released. However you are correct that the 500 herald is pretty much half the price of a spitfire but don’t think it has the same sort of quality components on it. Such as suspension etc. Horses for coarse’s tho I suppose. (Or maybe I’m just trying to justify it to myself 😉👍) ... Now go and get that box of milk tray sorted out. Cheers, Michael
-
Ps... when I pick mine up you’re more than welcome to come and have a spin on it. (So long as you’re insured 😉) I’m a cheap sort of bloke so just a six pack of Budweiser would defo seal a ride 🤪👍
Cheers, Michael

Just been to see the NHS Spitfire fly past at Durham hospital....

I forgot to ask how you made your selection - thought you were considering an Interceptor?
-

I’ll assume that was a REAL spitfire then. Bet it looked and sounded awesome. Seen two in the past and both times been absolutely blown away by them. 👍
Cheers, Michael

Yes I did consider an interceptor but it was a ride I had on my ktm390 that clinched it for me Matt. I rode out to Whitby (and home again 😉) which is a good 300 mile round trip from where I live. All the way there and all the way home I kept thinking “this is an absolutely stonking little bike, just a tad under powered”... that’s when I really started thinking I would really like a slightly bigger, more powerful single again, not go to the dark side and get a twin. However ones choices are fairly limited nowadays with decent singles. Plus I’m an advocate of trying to support local businesses if/when I can and Bolton (where they’re built) isn’t that far from me, So I decided to chop both moto guzzi and ktm in for a spitfire. .... Been a long time since I’ve been this excited about getting a bike 🤞👍
Cheers, Michael

I see! I think I'm more on your bro's wavelength, hence the RE Classic being top of my wishlist. The slower I go, the better I like it...

Don’t get me wrong, I’m past doing big speeds nowadays but the ktm only being a 390 just lacked that “punch” which is ultimately what I want nowadays. I want to go to 60/70mph, no higher but I want it to get there quick (or at least a tad quicker than the ktm 😉) Plus the spitfire is a truly hand built, lovely looking bike. I’m not getting any younger, I work hard so I thought, what the hell im going for it. 👍

Damn right... :)

Michael-just seen these latest posts and good luck with the new purchase. The 650 Enfield is a completely different type of bike...if it's fun you're after I'm sure the Spitfire will fit the bill. My 690 KTM Duke was manic and great fun-but I had to ride it flat out everywhere-it was just one of those bikes. The Interceptor can be ridden quick or slow but it is a tad heavy whereas the CCM will I imagine be very light and manouvreable...
-
Here you go Michael, by chance I met a couple whom I used to work with and this is where the ISA went! ;D There are other machines in the garage!
Don't slaver. ;)
Good health, Bill
-
Brilliant... (not quite as nice as the foggy flat tracker I’ve got on order tho😉)
Did they say they liked the bikes Bill?
Ps.. thanks for the photos 👍
-
Smitten! Have been used for 200 to 300 mile day jaunts. No big tours due to a lack of carrying capacity and other bikes for the job, but those are SORNED due to Covid. There are also two of the 450 GP Adventures in the garage as well that have been used extensively sur le Continent! Neither of the couple are over 5'6" and whilst behind them on the road the flickability and initial zip appeared good. There comments on reliability and after sales from CCM were also positive. I am not sure which machinel developed a problem earlier in it's life, but a van was despatched from Bolton to Perthshire, the owner left with another machine, whilst their's was repaired and then returned in the same way in under a week. I am not sure what the arrangements for servicing etc are, but no doubt you have all that sussed out. Finish looks good.
My regards, Bill
-
All sounds positive stuff then, yes CCM send a van with a mechanic to service your bike in the comfort of your own garage, I’ll just atta supply the tea. Anyone who knows me well enough will know ...that is NOT a problem 😉??. Thanks for the info Bill 👍.... Michael
